50 Facts About Me!

I’ve been blogging on here for almost 2 years now, and apart from rambling about personal things like knickers, ingrown hairs and acne, I haven’t given too much away about me, myself and I. Personally, I’m not all about posting selfies and slapping my mush all over the world-wide web for every Tom, Dick and Harry to have a gawk at, nor do I like the idea of over sharing about my personal life. But I’ve seen this 50 Facts About Me tag pop up on a few blogs lately, and I thought it might be nice to give you a few little facts about the girl behind the blog.

  1. I live in Dublin, Ireland. I love where I live and will never move. I’m more of a city girl, the countryside and I don’t get on too well.
  2. I have a little dog called Bella. She is a miniature Yorkie, she is 3 years old. She is teeny tiny and she is the centre of my universe. She’s my little fur baby.
  3. I like to dress my dog in little jumpers and coats in the winter. And the occasional dress or costume the rest of the year…. Yup, I’m crazy.
  4. I live with my boyfriend of 5 years, approximately 5 minutes down the road from my family home, where my parents and 2 younger sisters live. I go home every single day, my family are a huge part of my life.
  5. I have brown eyes and brown hair.
  6. I drive a Nissan Note. I like it, I don’t love it, but I had to buy it after I wrote off my Toyota Yaris last year.
  7. Speaking of car crashes, I’ve been in 3 crashes in the past 2 years. But before you think I’m the worst driver in the world, I was only driving once (that time the car in front jammed on for some unknown reason, and when I hit the brakes my car skidded on the wet road and smashed into a motorway barrier) the other 2 times I was passenger in a minibus in my job. So as a result of all these crashes I am extremely nervous when travelling by car or bus!
  8. Speaking of fears, I’m not a very good flyer. But I won’t let fear of flying stop me from travelling. I have Valium and alcohol to help me out😉
  9. My dream is to visit every Disney theme park in the world. So far it’s 3 down, 3 to go.
  10. My favourite animal is the Giant Panda. I love to watch Panda documentaries, and read about them. One of my highlights was visiting the Panda exhibit in Edinburgh Zoo where I swear to god, Tian Tian the panda waved at me. No joke.
  11. My favourite drink is tea. On average I’ll have 6 cups a day.
  12. I always have at least one candle lighting when I’m at home.
  13. My favourite Harry Potter book is The Goblet Of Fire.
  14. Grease is my favourite film, I could watch it over and over again.
  15. I don’t like foods that float. For example, stew, casseroles, minestrone soups or anything where bits of food are floating in liquid make me feel ill.
  16. On the same note, onions and mushrooms also freak me out.
  17. I love McDonalds alot. I probably eat it once a week, which I know isn’t healthy but it makes me happy.
  18. I am obsessed with copper homeware items. If it’s copper, I need it in my house.
  19. I am a Dublin GAA Football season ticket holder. I went to my first gaelic football match at the age of 15 with my uncle, and have been hooked ever since. I love nothing more than going to Croke Park to cheer on the boys in blue.
  20. I buy Stellar magazine every month, and have a subscription to US beauty magazine Allure.
  21. Angelina Jolie wrecks my head, I can’t stand her.
  22. My favourite social networks are Instagram & Snapchat.
  23. I love cereal. My favourites are Cornflakes, Rice Krispies, Cheerios or Frosties.
  24. Penneys is my favourite shop, I visit it at least once a week, and usually buy a few bits every month.
  25. My favourite sandwich is chicken & stuffing on white bread.
  26. I once spent €50 on a Winnie The Pooh teddy because it had a hat and little jacket on it.
  27. I have a deep deep love for Mozzarella sticks. Sadly, not enough places in Ireland serve this delicacy, so whenever I visit The States I try to eat as much deep-fried cheese as possible.
  28. I once broke my nose while skiing, and now hate the thoughts of skiing, surfing or any form of activity break.
  29. Speaking of strenuous activity, I climbed the fifth highest waterfall in the world when in Yosemite National Park, California. It was so difficult, and I hated every minute, particularly when I was bitten by a bug as I was climbing wet steps behind a waterfall. I managed to complete the hike, but did not enjoy one bit of it, and do not have fond memories of Yosemite.
  30. I do not like exercise. I can tolerate swimming, or a walk, but that’s about it. I have never once experienced these so-called ‘endorphins’ that people say they get from exercise.
  31. My GHD is one of my most prized possessions.
  32. I have an honours degree in Social Care, from Dublin Institute of Technology.
  33. As I work in healthcare, I am well used to dealing with gross things such as bodily fluids. I sometimes forget that not everyone is as used to these things as I am, and often have a habit of talking about poo or snot at the dinner table, much to everyone else’s dismay.
  34. Although I’m used to gross things, as a patient in hospital earlier this year, I had my first experience using a bedpan. It was one of the most traumatising moments of my life, and although I can laugh about it now, it was definitely my lowest point of 2016.
  35. I am petrified of birds. I will often cross the road to avoid a pigeon.
  36. David Beckham is my ultimate celebrity crush.
  37. The Simpsons is my favourite TV show. I say quotes from the show most days.
  38. I love quizzes.
  39. I let my dog sleep in my bed with me.
  40. I always sit with a blanket wrapped around me, winter or summer.
  41. My favourite number is 8.
  42. I haven’t missed an episode of Home & Away in years.
  43. I hate getting my hair cut. Going to the hairdressers stresses me out, so I only go about once a year.
  44. My favourite beauty brand is Soap & Glory.
  45. I rarely wear nail polish, but when I do it always chips off quickly, no matter what base coat or top coat I apply.
  46. I hate grocery shopping so much that I beg my boyfriend to do it for me.
  47. My favourite cocktail is a long island ice tea.
  48. I watch Mary Poppins at least once a fortnight.
  49. I have 2 Michael Kors handbags. One which I love, and one which I kind of regret buying.
  50. I have never tasted coffee.

So that’s the lot! Some rather useless facts about me🙂 I’d love to see your 50 Facts About Me posts, so if you’ve done one, please link it below, or if this inspires you to do one, be sure to let me know.

Glossybox UK November 2016 Review!

20161112_161702.JPG

It’s that time of the month again, Glossybox time! It seemed like I was waiting forever for this box to arrive, so I was delighted when I arrived home from work last night to find it waiting for me! The shipping seemed really slow this month, I noticed customers in the UK posting about their boxes from last Tuesday, yet mine arrived almost a week later. It’s difficult to avoid spoilers when us Irish customers are so far behind the Brits😦

Anyway, this month we were treated to 5 items, 4 of which were full-sized, and a teeny little sweet treat in the box too. Let’s take a closer look at the contents…

20161112_161724

First up, I spotted this rather large foil packet, the 111 Skin Bio Cellulose Facial Treatment Mask. It is one of the ever popular ‘sheet mask’ style of face masks, although this one is gold! I think it may be one of those jelly kind of ones? It promises to enhance the absorption of moisture to create a protective barrier that will keep skin perfectly hydrated. Pretty good for winter when a lot of people’s skin will be feeling the effects of the colder weather, this could also be a nice treat for the skin during the party season- a skin hangover cure perhaps! My only complaint is that we got a similar product only 2 boxes ago in the September box, and similar sheet masks for the under eyes in the June box, so while I enjoy products like this, it does feel a little bit repetitive. This is a full-sized item and valued at €23.

20161112_161801

Next up, another full-sized item, a pack of 3 Wilkinson Sword Quattro razors. Well, a girl always needs razors I guess… Though let’s be honest, leg shaving becomes less of a priority in the winter when we’re more covered up! Speaking of repetition, we only got Wilkinson Sword razors in the February box, so yeah while I’m happy with the inclusion as I know I’ll use them, they’re hardly the most exciting of additions? Also, whats with the whole ‘raspberry scented handles’ gimmick? Do my razor handles really need to be scented? Bizarre! Wilkinson Sword razors are really good though, so I’m sure they will work well at leaving my pins silky smooth! These retail at €8 a pack.

20161112_161737

Next up, the only travel sized item in the box was this hair care product, the Nanogen Root Boost Hair Thickening Spray. Now, at first glance I pulled it out of the box and was like, meh….a little sample, looks a bit medicinal, nothing too exciting. However after reading the product information leaflet, I’m a bit more intrigued to try it out. It is supposedly ‘a salon blowdry in a bottle’ promising to thicken and volumise the hair, leaving it feeling big and bouncy. I’m looking forward to giving this a whirl, as my hair is often really limp and lifeless looking, so anything that gives it a bit of a lift is a winner to me! A full-sized bottle of this costs €12, so this sample is worth about €4.

20161112_161839

Next up, another full-sized item with the Ruby Professional Large Tapered Blending Brush. I LOVE getting brushes in my Glossybox, so I was really pleased with this one. I have yet to use this, but even just swirling it on my skin I can already feel how lovely and soft the bristles are, yet they feel firm, so I think this will work really well at blending shadow around the eye, or even applying highlighter on small areas of the face. It’s also a cruelty-free brush with synthetic bristles, which is a plus point. This is valued at €8.

20161112_16525920161112_161952

Finally, the last full-sized item is the De Bruyere Beauté Jumbo Eye Pencil in the shade ‘Bubble 07’ As you can see from the swatch above, it’s a really nice khaki-grey shade, perfect for a smokey eye look. It seems to be a really creamy formula which will be easy to apply, I’m looking forward to trying it out. I’m rather rubbish at creating eye looks, so I love eye crayons like this that can create an effortless all over lid look! This is valued at €15.

20161112_161748

Finally, as a little bonus, there was a Raffaello chocolate treat included in the box. I’ve heard a lot of hype about these sweeties recently, however it wasn’t really to my taste, I’m not mad on nuts or coconut flavours! I do love when Glossybox add in little extras like this though. They also added in 3 discount codes and voucher cards for various lifestyle and fashion brands, which is great when you’re in the UK but a fat lot of good for us living in Ireland. Glossybox frequently add in £40 vouchers for meal subscription boxes, which can’t be used here, so why bother? It would be great to see them team up with some Irish brands to give discount codes or vouchers for us subscribers in the Emerald Isle.

Anyway, I’m happy enough with this month’s box. I’ll definitely use the brush and the razors, and I’ll use the face mask as a treat some time soon. I’m hoping the eye pencil and hair thickening spray work out well for me! So although it wasn’t the most exciting of boxes, I think it is one of the more useful ones I’ve gotten recently. Next month’s edition sounds interesting, the sneak peek states that subscribers will ‘get to choose their own box, with two seasonal looks to choose from, an email revealing more is on it’s way’ so I’m very intrigued to see what the choices will be!

Liz Earle Orange Flower Botanical Body Wash Review!

20160819_120450.JPG

You guys will have seen me wax lyrical on here about shower gels on more than one occasion before, so it won’t be a surprise to you to see another rave review on a body wash. Ok, I know what you’re thinking- sure really what does it matter what body wash you use? It all goes down the drain anyway, right? Well, yeah I suppose it does. But I just love a little in-shower treat. For me, a nice body wash is a vital part of my daily shower routine. And this hero product from Liz Earle is the key element to a happy shower for me. The Orange Flower Botanical Body Wash is one of a number of body wash offerings from Liz Earle, and the only one I’ve tried so far. It has the most heavenly citrus scent, which is perfect to wake me up in my morning shower. It is SLS free, and its natural ingredients mean it is perfect for even the most sensitive skin types. I pour the tiniest amount onto my loofah, and thanks to its foaming agents from natural sources, it foams up a treat, and leaves my skin perfectly cleansed, along with feeling soft and smooth. I also use this for shaving my legs, and it works really well, and my skin doesn’t feel dried out like when I use shave gels. The inclusion of ten essential oils means the delicate scent lingers on my skin, which feels nourished as a result of daily use.

This really is an all round amazing product, and is a lovely treat for yourself or as a gift for someone special. Yes, it is pricey at €17.25 for a 200ml bottle, but as I mentioned above, a little goes a long way, so a bottle will last for quite a while. You can pick up Liz Earle products from their online store here, or from Boots.

Have you tried the Orange Flower Botanical Body Wash? What is your favourite Liz Earle product? Let me know in the comments below!

The Las Vegas Haul: Part 1- Clothing! (Victoria’s Secret, PINK, Abercrombie & More!)

20161006_035241.JPG

As I mentioned in my London Primark Haul, I recently visited Las Vegas, and boy did I so some shopping. We hit up all the malls and shops in the casinos, and also visited the Las Vegas Premium Outlets North too. Now, it was mainly beauty items and some gifts for family, but I did pick up some clothing and shoes for myself, so I thought I’d show you what I spent my dollars on…

So let’s start with my buys from the Outlets. If you’re ever in Las Vegas I’d highly recommend a visit to the Premium Outlets North. It’s about $15 in a taxi from the strip. There are 175 stores, from high end brands to more affordable brands, and there is something for everyone there.

20161006_035844.JPG20161006_035816

First up, I picked up this tee from American Eagle. I liked the little slogan and the colours, along with how the back is that teeny bit longer than the front. I think it will go well with my grey skinny jeans and trainers. This was around $10. I was quite disappointed with American Eagle in general. On previous trips I have bought quite alot there, but this time I didn’t like the kind of more grungy yet skimpy direction that they were going in, which was disappointing.

20161006_035938.JPG

Also in the outlets I picked up these grey sweats from GAP. They’re nice and lightweight, and I liked how they are cuffed at the end, and they’re quite slim fitting and not too sloppy like other sweats I own. These turned out to be kinda pricey, so they were around $30, which was probably a bit more than I should’ve paid for them.

20161006_040046.JPG

Another pair of grey sweats that I probably didn’t need but bought anyway were these ones from Reebok. They’re a bit more fleecy inside than the others, and are softer feeling and have the same cuff bottoms style that I like. These were also in the outlets and a bit more reasonable than the GAP ones, at about $17.

20161006_04133920161006_041332

Next up in the Tommy Hilfiger Outlet (where I bought my parents and auntie some gifts) I spotted this really nice knitted jumper. I never see anything in Tommy Hilfiger for myself, so I was pleasantly surprised with this one. It’s a kind of biscuit coloured heavy knit jumper and I just adore it. It’s so cosy and I love the style of it, I plan on keeping it to wear at Christmas. This was around $35.

20161006_04144220161006_041518

Finally in the Outlets, I picked up these UGG boots. I know, I know, UGGs are long gone out of fashion, but you know what? I don’t care! They are by far the comfiest shoes ever, and are always my winter staple footwear. So I was delighted to find these cool boots that are a twist on the classic style, with the added knitted cuff and buckle detail. They’re really cosy and I’ll be pairing them with jeans, leggings and skirts with tights all winter. These were a complete bargain at $90.

Everything else that I picked up came from stores in the Casino malls, or in the Fashion Show Mall.

20161008_201719.JPG

Next up, I found this cute cami top in Abercrombie & Fitch. I loved the autumnal colours and thought it would look nice with a cardi and jeans. You know me, I love a simple cami top! This was a steal at $10.

20161008_21242820161008_21243120161008_212445

These shoes were something I was so excited to get my hands on. You guys know I’m  massive Disney fan, and as soon as I’d heard that Vans were doing a Toy Story range, I knew I’d need them in my life. They actually launched while we were in Las Vegas, so I got them on the day they were released. I mean, look at them. I love the whole Toys in Andy’s room design, but let’s be honest, the best part is the Andy signature on the right sole. I’m over the moon with these. So much so, that I even brought the box home in my luggage! These were pretty pricey at $70, but I had to have them. I’m plan on bringing them on my Walt Disney World trip next year.

Now, I learned something about myself on this trip. I learned that I have no willpower when it comes to PINK, the Victoria’s Secret store. I love the style of all the casual clothes there, and as you will see, I spent alot of money in there.

20161008_20202620161008_202101

First up, I picked up this tee. I love the greyish blue colour, and the simple style. It’s a great length, perfect for wearing with leggings, and it is so soft and cosy. I kinda wish I’d picked up some more of these in different colours now! This was $27.

20161006_035450.JPG

Somewhat randomly, they kept handing me free pairs of pants with my purchases. It worked anyway, cos I went back and hauled up a storm on their underwear. This photo is probably already TMI, but I’m not gonna show you all the other pairs that I got. They have a great range of knickers, from boypants, to little shorts to the more skimpy numbers. Whatever floats your boat. While I was there, the offer was 7 pairs for $27.50 which was fantastic, so I made sure I stocked up.

20161006_041212.JPG

I have to apologise for this photo. I mean the t-shirt is in a ball of creases. I have since realised that it is an absolute bitch to iron, so I’m glad I only bought one of these. I liked the long length of this and the cute criss cross design at the neck. In the store they had these teamed up with little bralettes underneath, so the slight bit of lace was peeking through  the top. I bought a little pinky coloured bralette at the ridiculous price of $30 (gulp) but to be honest when I wore it with the tee you could barely see it so it was kinda pointless. I do like this top, but it probably wasn’t worth the $25 I spent on it.

20161006_04073420161006_04074520161006_04072020161006_040813

I picked up this sweatshirt too, it’s different from the typical style of hoodie I usually go for. I like the zip opening on the neckline, and the different shades of grey are perfect for casual winter wear. Yes, PINK is a bit out there with the print all over their clothes, but I love it! This was around $50 I think.

20161006_040910

Another hoodie I picked up was this blue one. It’s a little more ‘normal’ than the other styles I’ve chosen from PINK. I’m actually wearing it now as I type, and its oh-so comfy, really soft and cosy. It’s also a bit longer than usual hoodies, which I like. This was also around $50. Yes, the clothes from PINK are kinda pricey in comparison to other brands, but honestly, I still have clothes from the brand from years ago that are still in great condition, so I think they’re worth the investment.

20161006_04031120161006_04025620161006_040417

There was an offer in store that when you bought a hoodie you got a pair of sweats for $20, which I think was half price. As I was picking up the hoodies, I took the opportunity to grab even more sweats. I chose this charcoal grey pair, and I have lived in them ever since. They’re a slim fit on the leg, and I love the little tie up design at the waist, along with the more simple (by PINK standards anyway) logo on the leg. They are so comfy, I wish I’d bought several pairs in this style!

20161006_040521-220161006_04061220161006_040550

I also picked up these sweats as part of the $20 offer. These are a little more out there than the last pair. I love the little zip detail on the ankle, and the PINK logo on the leg and waistband. These fit pretty tight, almost like leggings, but they are so warm and cosy, I love wearing them!

20161006_041034

20161006_04104120161006_04104420161006_041117

Finally, this sweatshirt is my favourite purchase from PINK. I like how they do location specific clothing, so I wanted to pick up something from the Las Vegas range. I chose this top in a bigger size so it was slouchy, and I barely took it off for the entire week of our holiday. It is the most comfortable item of clothing that I own. Just popping this top on makes me so happy, and it’s perfect to wear when feeling cold, under the weather or just a bit hungover, as it’s like you’re being wrapped in a warm hug. I am just obsessed with it.  I think this was around $50 too.

So that’s the lot in terms of clothing! I don’t know about you, but when I visit The States, I only ever find casual clothing, I find it really hard to find evening or dressy clothes? Are you guys the same?

Be sure to keep your eye on the blog, as later in the week I’ll be popping up my other haul posts including a hell of a lot of makeup from Sephora, and some other random bits including alot of candles from Bath and Body Works!

Primark Clothing & Accessories Haul (featuring ALOT of Disney!)

You guys know the drill, I love Penneys. It is by far my favourite place to shop, so when I recently visited London, I had to pay a visit to Primark, as although we have an amazing selection in Penneys stores here, our British sister stores have quite a lot of items that can’t be found on the Emerald Isle. And you guys know how much I love Disney, so it was a great excuse to stock up on the Disney items that aren’t available in Penneys. Let’s dive right in shall we?

20161001_141940

Firstly, I had my eye on these shoes after spotting them online a couple of months ago, so I was thrilled to find they still had some on my visit to the Oxford Street store in October. I can’t remember the exact price but I think these were around £18. I love the whole criss-cross strap design, with the gold heel, and there’s also a zip and tassle detail on the back (which I forgot to photograph, D’oh!) These are pretty high, but I’ve worn them and they’re actually pretty comfy. Gotta love Primark shoes!

20161001_141238

Next up, I spotted this cute little navy velvet bag. Now, velvet isn’t usually my kinda thing, but I really liked the navy and gold design of this bag, and its a nice small size, which I thought would be great for bringing out and about during the party season. I’ve seen far more expensive alternatives to this in the likes of Topshop, so for £7, I thought this was an amazing find.

20161001_141323

Up next, I found this cute little suede style khaki skirt. It was a complete bargain at only £6, and I’ve worn it already, with the heels I showed you above, and a cream cami top. I reckon I’ll get plenty of wear out of this in Autumn/Winter, with tights and boots, or on nights out with heels. Really pleased with this one!

20161001_141830

I could not leave this scarf behind. Everyone knows Primark/Penneys do amazing scarves, and this one was no exception. Firstly, I love the mix of colours, they will go so well with most of my jackets and coats. Secondly, its oh so soft and cosy, and massive, a true blanket scarf. Thirdly, it was £4. Yup. Amazeballs.

20161001_142710

I have to apologise for the rubbish quality of this photo. This cardigan was a bugger to photograph. I picked this up as we were venturing on to Las Vegas after London, so I wanted a cosy cardi to wear on the long haul flight. This is one of those waterfall style knits, and is so soft and slouchy, it was perfect teamed with leggings and a tee for a comfortable outfit for travelling. This was £12, and worth every penny. I know I will get tons of wear from it this winter!

20161001_14175020161001_140641

Two random bits I needed for travel were also picked up, the travel pillow was lovely and soft and perfect for my long flight. I think it was around £4. And I also picked up this charging cable for £2.50 at the tills, as it was handy to have in my bag with my little portable charger for my iPhone & camera!

Now, if you’re not a Disney fan, click out now… cos here comes a whole lotta random Disney merchandise!

20161001_141503_hdr

I could not leave this one behind. I adore Toy Story, so when I spotted this cool nightshirt, I grabbed it and flung it into my basket at the speed of light. I love the whole ‘Toys Are Back In Town’ slogan, and how it features Slinky & Rex, as you don’t usually see those guys on ladies merchandise! I also love the whole Andy’s wallpaper clouds design, It’s just fab for a Disney Dork like me. It’s really comfortable to wear, and was a bargain at £5. A girl can never have too many Disney pyjamas, eh?

20161001_140610

I picked up this stackable set of Disney rings in the rose gold colour, as I wanted some Disney jewellery for my trip to Walt Disney World next year. I like how you can wear these rings all on one finger, or on their own either. They’re a cute subtle way to wear Disney jewellery, with the simply Mickey design. I wear a lot of rose gold jewellery, so these should match in perfectly. A great find at £2.50.

20161001_14080520161001_140747

Next up were these necklaces. I chose a rose gold and silver diamanté style, as I couldn’t choose between them! Again, these will be perfect for Florida, and will add some Disney style to a plain outfit. These were £3 each.

20161001_14084320161001_140933

Again, I couldn’t choose between silver or rose gold, so I got both! Same idea here really, some cute Disney earrings to wear on my Orlando trip (and at home too let’s be honest) and such a bargain at £2.50 for 3 pairs per set!

20161001_14100720161001_14104420161001_141119

Next up, some random Disney home accessories. I picked up these little wall hangings, as I thought the ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’ one was perfect for my kitchen door, as anyone who knows me will be well aware how much I love tea and tea parties, so it fits in great in my home. I just loved the quote ‘If you can dream it, you can do it’ on the Minnie ears plaque, and I thought it would be perfect for on the wall in my beauty room. And finally, the little Mickey shaped chalkboard shall be kept for Christmas, as I plan to use it as a countdown board for how many sleeps there are to Christmas! I can’t remember the exact prices of these, but I think they were all priced between £1.50-£2.

20161001_14170820161001_14164920161001_141616

Finally, sticking with Christmas; I picked up some Disney baubles! I had a lot of Disney decorations on my tree last year, but I’m thinking this year, I may need 2 trees in my home, one dedicated to Disney, and one regular one, as I have so many decorations and not enough space to put them all up! These sets were great value at £4 each. I’m sure I’ll pick up some more Disney decorations in the weeks to come!

So that’s the lot. Keep your eyes peeled, as I have some Las Vegas haul posts on the way, featuring clothing, makeup and a bit more Disney merchandise too!

New Arrivals from Disney at Primark/Penneys!

If you’re a regular visitor to Just My Look, you’ll know of my deep, deep Disney obsession. Combined with my Penneys (thats the Irish name for Primark, FYI) addiction, I often find myself hauling up a storm on all the latest Mickey merchandise in my favourite shop on the high street, so I’ve been keeping an eye out for some nice new Disney bits and bobs for Autumn/Winter 2016. My favourite thing about Disney x Primark is the amazing affordability, along with great designs that you won’t find anywhere else. At the moment they have so many cool pyjamas, along with clothing for Halloween and Christmas. My personal favourite items? Well, I adore the Bambi nightshirt, and the Mickey & Minnie tights are on my wishlist for the festive period!

Glossybox UK October 2016 ‘Estée Lalonde Edition’

Hi there, remember me? It’s been a pretty long time without any blog posts on Just My Look, and for that I apologise. I kinda got stuck in a blogging rut, then I went away for a fortnight to London and Las Vegas, so this little space of the internet remained unloved for about a month. However, I’m now back and have plenty of posts planned, so expect things to get a bit livelier around here from now on! Anyways, on to one of my favourite things to talk about: Glossybox!

This month’s edition was a collaboration with blogger and YouTuber Estée Lalonde. Estée is a hugely successful Canadian beauty and lifestyle blogger, who is based in the UK. I have followed her from her Essie Button days, when she was one of my favourite beauty gurus. Now, I’m not gonna lie, she’s kinda slipped down my list of favourites since she left her Essie Button persona behind and became all grown up as Estée. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, everyone grows up, but I do feel that she has gone on a fairly ‘too cool for school’ hipster kinda path, which doesn’t always interest me, but I do still watch her videos from time to time. Anyway, when I heard that this month’s box was a collaboration with Estée, I was looking forward to discovering some great brands and products that Estée herself loves, but well… something didn’t feel quite right, let’s dig in shall we?

Ok, so the most intriguing product was the one billed as the *mystery sixth item* which is supposed to be a new hair hero. Now, I’ve yet to try this out, as I only arrived home from holiday last night to the box waiting for me, but I’m really excited to give it a whirl. On first impressions, it smells divine, and I’ve been trying to guess what brand it could possibly be. My only idea so far is that it may be a Head & Shoulders shampoo, as the bottle design is similar to their usual style, and it’s made by Proctor and Gamble, their parent company. Also, in the information leaflet this is described as being ‘unbeatable at caring for the scalp’ which is another clue that points towards Head & Shoulders. Either way, I’m gonna give it a go tomorrow and hope it works out well. Estée herself will be announcing the true identity of the product next week, so I don’t have long to wait!

Next up, is the Bee Good Honey & Camelina Facial Exfoliator. We’ve had products from this brand in Glossybox before, the products are made by British bees, and the formula is free from parabens, synthetic colours, mineral oil, silicone, SLS or SLES. So it sounds all good for sensitive skin types eh? Again, I’ve not tried this out, only on the back of my hand, but the formula seems to have just the right amount of scrubby particles, and a gorgeous natural fragrance. My skin is a bit all over the place from all my recent travelling, so I’m dying to try this out!

Sticking with skin care, next up, I received the Drops of Youth Concentrate from The Body Shop. Now, I saw this and I was a bit like, oh whatever. We had a similar sample from The Body Shop a couple of months ago, and its a bit annoying to have another little vial of serum with the words ‘free sample’ on the back popped into my box, when other subscribers got pretty decent Rituals and Nuxe products instead. Anyway, this feels like a nice lightweight serum that I should get some use from, but I’m not overly fussed on anti-ageing products, and I’m disappointed I didn’t get one of the better options instead. Oh well, that’s the name of the game I guess.

On to makeup, and the first item was the Secret Flush Soothing Cream Blusher & Lip Stain Duo in the shade Nectar, from Universal Beauty Cosmetics. This is a nice dinky little product in really cute packaging, and it’s a really nice pinky peach shade with a subtle hint of shimmer, that could be seen as a dupe for the infamous Orgasm multiple from NARS. I really like cream cheek products, but I don’t think I’d use this on my lips really. Also, cream products are something I get more use from in the summer, when I’m going for a lighter and more dewy look, so I would’ve loved to have received this a couple of months back. I’ve noticed that it is a bit heavily scented, which I don’t think will work for those subscribers with particularly sensitive skin. I shall give this a go, and report back.

Next up is the Trifle Cosmetics Lip Parfait, it doesn’t have a shade name. Anyway, how beautiful is that packaging. I saw it and I was like oh em effing gee I love that, how cool will it be when I whip it out of my handbag and show it off to all my beauty loving friends. Then I popped the lid off, and saw the shade and my heart just sank a little. At first it looks like a lovely pretty nude shade, but upon application to the lips it just looked as if I’d dipped my mouth in foundation. Not a good look for me. It’s very pale for my skin type, but the formula is nice and smooth and it feels very comfortable on the lips. I’m hoping that maybe I can salvage it with the help of a decent lip liner or lip gloss, but I’m not sure. If only the shade had been better, I’d have been completely head over heels.

Finally, the last addition was the PS…Pro Graphic Eyeliner. Yup, Glossybox have gone and done it, they’ve included a Primark item in their box. Now, I think there may have been quite a lot of negativity online regarding the inclusion of such an affordable brand, but hey, you guys know I adore Primark, so I was happy enough with the inclusion of one of their beauty products. There were 6 different items from PS…Pro sent out, and truthfully, I wish I’d received the primer or translucent powder that I’ve seen other customers got instead. However, felt tip eyeliners are something I use (and already have an abundance of unfortunately) so I will give this a bash. The only thing scaring me slightly is the nib. I mean seriously, look at how fat that is, I’m scared I’ll be totally panda eyed if I attempt to line my lids with this! I’ve swatched it a couple of times and I must say, it’s pretty decently pigmented, and lasts really long on the skin (I’m talking several hand washes with soap and this stuff was still there- which may be a problem trying to remove it from your eyes at the end of the day!) I would welcome more additions from Primark in my box, for me Glossybox is all about beauty discovery, and it’s nice to receive a mixture of high-end and high street products.

Swatches L-R: PS…Pro Eyeliner, Universal Beauty Blusher, Trifle Cosmetics Lip Parfait.

So, that’s the lot! Was I impressed with this month’s edition? Well yeah….ish. For me, it was a decent balance of hair care, skin care and makeup, but I was disappointed I got a teeny sample from The Body Shop instead of other options. However, something that really struck a chord with me was the whole ‘Estée Lalonde collaboration.’ This isn’t the first time Glossybox have teamed up with a blogger, most notably the Really Ree edition last December was fantastic. What I liked about the Really Ree box was that I felt Ree herself had trialled and enjoyed the products, she also did a lot of social media chat, blog posts and YouTube videos about the Glossybox at the time of release, which was great. This time around, well I don’t want to sound horrible, but the Estée collaboration just feels like its been thrown together just to promote her book. These products don’t feel like the type of items that she chats about on her blog or channel, and even the piece on the information card seems like it’s just been typed up to promote her book. Apart from an Instagram post, I haven’t seen anything else from Estée promoting this Glossybox, she has yet to blog or do a video on it? I dunno, maybe I’m being overly cynical, but it feels like she’s just added her name to this, whereas when Really Ree was an ambassador, she seemed alot more enthusiastic about it. But, maybe I’m wrong, it just doesn’t feel like anything special to me.

Anyway, I don’t wanna sound overly negative, I am looking forward to trialling out every product within this Glossybox, and I will most definitely be keeping up my subscription, I love getting my box of goodies in the post every month!
