Glossybox UK January 2017 Review ‘The Edible Edit’

Yesterday the first Glossybox of 2017 dropped through my letterbox, somewhat easing my ‘it’s a Monday in January and payday is still ages away blues’ This month’s box is themed ‘The Edible Edit’ which is a superfood inspired collection, in collaboration with Instagram food sensation Deliciciously Stella. I know absolutely zilch about Deliciously Stella, and I assume this collab is just a way to promote her book like the Estée Lalonde edition last year. Anyway, this month’s line up contained 5 items, 4 of which were full-sized. Let’s take a closer look at the contents, shall we?

First up is the Vitamasques Manuka Honey Face Mask. This is billed as a full-sized item, as it is a single use sheet mask. It promises to hydrate, nourish and moisturise the skin by using a triple layer sheet technology, which is inspired by Korean innovation. This is a nice little addition, but as a long time subscriber of Glossybox, I find it hard to get excited about  this. We’ve received 5 different varieties of sheet mask over the past 12 or so months, we even received a pretty similar mask from the same brand back in September. So while I’ll definitely get around to using this eventually, I’m hardly jumping for joy with this inclusion.

Next up is the Nip + Fab Kale Fix Moisturiser. This is the only item that is not full-sized, but at 30ml, it’s a fairly decent sample size. This moisturizer is described as a superfood powerhouse of kale, watercress and almond oil, and promises to enrich skin, protecting it from external aggressors while the addition of aloe vera and shea butter helps to soothe and smooth skin. I’ve never tried anything from this brand before, but I’ve heard good things. This is a decent enough little addition, again- moisturiser isn’t too exciting to me, but it is an essential item, so this will get used at some stage. The small squeezy tube makes it ideal for travel, so I may keep it for a future holiday.

Sticking with skin care, next up is the Unani Illuminate Milk Cleanser. This is a full-sized bottle, at a very decent 200ml size. This one is billed as a gentle cleansing milk based on nutritious natural oils, which purify and protect your skin, removing makeup and impurities, leaving it soft and recharged. It is a nice light formula, the consistency is somewhere between a bit runny and a bit creamy, and it has a lovely subtle scent. I always enjoy trying a new cleanser, so this is a nice addition for me.

The last skin care item included was the True Organic of Sweden- All You Need Is Me balm. This is another full-sized item, and an interesting one at that. This product is a multi purpose balm, made from entirely natural, organic ingredients. So it can be used as a lip balm, dry skin saviour, cuticle cream or flyaway hair tamer, to name but a few uses. It reminds me of the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, only without the smell, and the formula is a little less heavy feeling. These products are the type of thing that are really boring to buy, but when you have one, you realise how great they actually are. I’m sure I will get a lot of use out of this one, once my current tube of 8 Hour Cream runs out.

Finally, the only makeup item included this month is from The Balm, with their Meet Matt(e) Trimony Single Eyeshadow in the shade Matt Kumar. Surprisingly enough, although this looks teeny tiny, this is in fact a full-sized eyeshadow, which is usually sold as part of a palette. On first impression I was a bit like, ugh, that’s so miniscule, useless… and pushed it to one side. But later on, upon further inspection, I realised that this is a pretty nice little item. It is a really nice aubergine hue, with a really smooth matte texture, and it is perfectly pigmented. I’ve tried eyeshadows from The Balm before, and loved them, so I’m sure this will be a hit. The little packaging is a bit fiddly, but I’ll probably depot it and stick it into my Z-Palette. What I like about this is that I don’t own any other shades like it, so it is a great addition to my collection, with a different, but wearable shade. It’s items like these that make me love Glossybox- it’s great when you get something a bit different to your usual style, that is a good quality product, from a recognisable brand. Too often Glossybox throw in random strange items from unknown foreign brands, that are not easy to repurchase if I do like them. My only slight criticism? It says ‘Free Sample- Not for Sale’ on the back of the packaging, and my own local chemist pops these in the bag as an extra when you buy something from the brand. It’s not the end of the world, but it would have been nice an a bonus sixth item, rather than a main product, purely down to its ‘freebie’ status.

So thats the lot! Overall, it’s a decent offering. Definitely not the most exciting edition, the products inside were all rather basic beauty items that don’t really give me a thrill, but every single item will be used. So, I guess that means it’s sort of a success? After 2 years of receiving Glossyboxes, I’m not sure if I just have enough products now, or the novelty has worn off… but my excitement is waining a bit… And I am unsure if I’ll keep the subscription going much longer.

What are your thoughts on this month’s offering? Did you get anything different in your box? Let me know in the comments below!

What I Got for Christmas 2016. Gadgets, Beauty & Disney!

Ok, I know Christmas is a distant memory at this stage, but I’ve been super lazy on the blogging front, and just haven’t got around to posting anything until today. I thought I’d share some of the lovely gifts I received from my family and friends, as I know some of you are as nosey as me, and will love taking a look at what I received! So if you wanna take a peek then keep on reading!

My boyfriend very kindly gave me the HP Sprocket, and I was thrilled! It is basically a little portable printer that you can use to print out pocket sized photos from your phone, via bluetooth, so no wires are needed. It also uses Zink, so it doesn’t need replacement ink, just slot in the paper and get going. I’d spotted this in a recent Zoella video, and thought it was a nifty little gadget, so I was really excited that my boyfriend surprised me with it. You can buy the paper in little refill packs, Polaroid paper is also compatible with it, once you have an original bar code from HP paper (which comes in the box) Anyway, I think I’ll do a full review on it, let me know in the comments if you’d like to learn more!

Next up, he also got me a Fire Tv Stick, meaning I can watch Netflix and YouTube on my TV now. I’m not gonna lie, I haven’t even set it up yet, but I reckon it’ll get a lot of use. And as far as I know, it works on wi-fi, so you can travel with it, which is great!

Next up, also from my boyfriend, was this Fitbit Charge 2. Now, I won’t lie, I was like ehhh… what am I gonna use this for? I am not the exercising type at all. So I thought oh my god this is gonna sit in a drawer unused. However, I’ve worn it every day since I got it, and I’m starting to really enjoy it. It’s a great way to track how many steps I’m taking each day, and it is a good motivator to get you up and moving, as it gives a little nudge if you’ve been sat on your arse on the couch for too long. It also maps your sleep patterns along with a lot of other neat little functions, as well as acting as a watch, obviously. Again, if you’d like a more in-depth post, let me know.

Next up, my boyfriend got me three beauty books that I had on my wishlist! First up is Pretty Iconic, by Sali Hughes. Her previous book, Pretty Honest is one of my favourite beauty reads, so I’m dying to get stuck into this one! I also got Bloom by Estée Lalonde and Face by Pixiwoo, as I follow both on YouTube and really love them. My Auntie gave me Pippa O’Connor’s book, as I just love her so much, her style is amazing and she seems to have a lovely personality. If you’re not Irish you may not know Pippa, but she’s a hugely successful blogger here, and worth a follow on Instagram and Snapchat!

My little sister made me up this gorgeous little beauty box, which I loved! She filled it with goodies from Topshop’s makeup line, along with a few little bits from Primark. I’m currently working my way through testing and trialling everything, and I’m loving it all so far! Such a lovely gift idea  🙂

Sticking with beauty products, my boyfriend’s mum gave me this lovely set from L’Occitane. I adore their hand creams, so this found its way into my handbag immediately. It also contains a gorgeous gloss and a soap as well, love it!

It’s my annual tradition to ask for the bumper Soap & Glory set from Santa, and this year he did not disappoint. This year’s edition came in a fabulous briefcase style tin, and as you can see, is jam-packed full with 10 of the brand’s best products. I’m particularly looking forward to trialling out the Speed Plump moisturiser! I have plenty of reviews of Soap & Glory on the blog if you’d like to learn more.

My boyfriend also got me this lovely Island Escape perfume set from Marks and Spencers. I adore this scent so much, ever since I got a travel size version in their beauty box last summer, so when I heard there was a gift set featuring a whopper 95ml bottle and a body lotion on offer, I had to add it to my list. This is such a gorgeous summer scent, I highly recommend you take a sniff on your next visit to the M&S Beauty Hall!

Also on my list from Marks & Spencers (am I turning into a granny?!) was this bomber jacket. I love the floral style, and I got so much wear from my Zara bomber, that I knew I needed another one in my collection. I can’t wait to wear this out with a white cami and grey skinny jeans!

My mam got me this lovely Mickey Mouse top. I’m finally getting to visit Walt Disney World this year, so this will be my ‘going on the plane’ top, I’ve already worn it a couple of times, and it’s really comfy and looks cool with jeans and trainers. Love it.

Sticking with Disney, I got lots of socks and pants! The sock sets were from Dunnes Stores, the Aladdin pants from Topshop, and the Minnie Ninnys (as I like to call them!) are from Marks and Spencers kids department. Yup, I have the butt of a 13-year-old girl. I’m not even ashamed to show my new pants off, I think they’re fantastic!

A stocking filler that I was so thrilled with, an iPhone cable! I mean, I’m constantly breaking these things, and my phone battery is so crap it seems my phone is constantly plugged into the wall, so this has already seen plenty of use!

Yup, I got three wallets! So it seems that my sister, boyfriend and my mam all knew I was in need of a new wallet, and each bought me one! I decided to keep all three as I can keep one for nights out, one for day-to-day use, and one for holidays! A girl can never have too many accessories, eh? 😉

More over sharing of undies, and more Marks and Spencers, my mam got me this lovely little vest and pants set. Seriously, you can’t beat M&S for underwear or pyjamas, they’re always so comfy and great quality.

Finding Dory was one of my favourite movies of 2016, so my friend picked me up this 3D jigsaw as a fun gift, we actually sat and made it up with a glass of wine! My little sister also got me the Finding Dory DVD, which I’ve watched twice since Christmas, such a great film.

I love tea, I love afternoon tea, and I love any kind of vintage china. So I was really pleased when my auntie gifted me this lovely set of china mugs. I love the blue and white colours and the lovely floral design. I can’t wait to have a tea party and show these off!

Another book, this time from my mam, a great step by step cocktail book. I love cocktails, and I am always trying to make nice ones at home. So far I’ve used it to make a really nice strawberry daiquiri, and I have quite a few more that I want to try out once Dry January is over!

My final book (I have a lot of reading to do!) is this Disney book from my mam. I’ve flicked through it, and it looks like it is going to be a great read, as it has tons of information on the history of the movies and theme parks, as well as loads of behind the scenes trivia and stories from the different movies. Perfect for a Disney nerd, like myself.

I got tons of sweets! My boyfriend popped the Vodka & Orange boiled sweets into my stocking, what a fun idea! My auntie also does a stocking for me every year, and fills it with sweets and chocolates- as you can see, it was full of goodies!

My auntie also got me this lovely little plaque to hang on my wall above my makeup table. It’s really cute in the shape of a perfume bottle, and I love the little slogan on it. It fits in with my make up room theme perfectly.

My sister got me this gorgeous necklace from Topshop. I had been complaining about never having nice accessories, so I was so pleased to receive this, as it will go with so many outfits. I can’t wait to wear it!

Yup, more Disney, my auntie got me this cute Minnie Mouse pyjama top. I love how the bow is sequined, and the back has a split up it so it is almost completely open. It is so comfy to sleep in.

Also from my auntie, was this lovely vase. I never owned a vase until last summer, so if anyone gave me flowers I used to leave them in a measuring jug or give them to my mam. Terrible, I know. When I was unwell, I received bunches of flowers as get well gifts, so I inherited an old vase from my mam, but this is my first brand new one, and I really like it. She also got me lovely flowers too. I’m going to try to buy flowers more often in 2017, as I’ve realised how they can be such a nice addition to a room. God, I must be growing up.

My parents also got me this really nice hoodie. I love wearing leggings and cosy tracksuits, so this is perfect for me. It’s a really nice slouchy fit and looks great with leggings or jeans and trainers.

A friend of mine very kindly gave me these gorgeous Disney bangles! They are kind of similar to the Alex and Ani style, but each one represents a different princess. The ones I got were Snow White, Ariel, Cinderella and Belle. I think they are so pretty, and I cannot wait to wear them when I visit Disneyworld in Florida later this year.

My little sister got me this Minnie Mouse dressing gown, and I am just obsessed with it! It is so cosy, and I love how the hood has Minnie’s face and a bow on it, it’s really cute. I asked for this to be big and comfy, so she got it in a larger size, and it is perfect. That’s the end of the Disney bits now, I swear!

My parents got me this hoodie as a surprise, and I love it! If you don’t already know, I am from Dublin, and this top is in the Dublin team’s colours, along with my name on the back, in a Disney style font- well once they saw it, they knew it would be perfect for me. The picked it up from a lady at a local craft fair, and I really love it. It’s always nice to receive a personalised gift like this, it seems so unique. I love wearing it when going for a walk with the dog, or while having a lazy day where I want to lounge about in slouchy clothes.

Finally, was this gift from my boyfriend. Sheets. Yeah, he got me sheets. I’m not even gonna lie about it, I was fairly freaked out when I unwrapped these. Yeah, I’ve been told I’m a brat, but I won’t lie, I unwrapped a huge box to find… bedding… hardly exciting is it? I sound like little miss demandy, but as soon as I moved into my house I always asked people not to buy me presents for the house (unless they were pretty accessories, candles etc) because I prefer buying boring household items myself, and receiving fun items as Christmas gifts. My boyfriend on the other hand loves getting housey bits, like kitchen accessories, I even bought him a slow cooker one year! Anyway, they are Egyptian cotton, super comfy, I will admit. But they don’t go with the style of my bedroom, they scream ‘Bachelor Pad’ I mean they’re made by a company called Bro Sheets for goodness sake. Anyway, it’s the thought the counts… and his thought was to wind me up completely. And it worked. Just don’t tell him that I’ve never slept better since these are on my bed!

Well, that’s the lot! You deserve a medal if you’ve actually made it to the end of this post, so well done! I received some really amazing gifts, I am so grateful for everything, and I’m aware that I am truly spoiled rotten.

What did you get for Christmas? Let me know in the comments below! I hope 2017 is going well for everyone 🙂

‘Mistletoe Kisses’ Glossybox UK December 2016 Review!

Here we are again, it is Glossybox time! The twelfth box of the year has arrived, and it is a lovely limited edition design, simply titled ‘Mistletoe Kisses’ which is perfect for the festive season.

Inside are 5 items, 4 of which are full-sized, and they all centre around preparing the perfect festive makeup look. As you can see, it’s a fairly makeup focused box this month, which will be sure to please many subscribers. So let’s take a closer look at the contents…

First up, is the MDMflow semi-matte lipstick in the shade ‘Bossy’ Now, I knew I’d be receiving this item, as subscribers were given a choice between two lippies, with the explanation that the other items in your box would compliment it. So as the other choice was a festive red colour (not something I would ever wear) I went for the nude shade, as it seemed to be more my style. The packaging is rather cool, although its somewhat similar to a golden tampon, but unfortunately the shade wasn’t how I’d pictured it to be. It is very brown in colour, from the photos on the models online, I expected it to be a little bit more pinkish in tone. But both myself and my sister tried it out, and it’s not a bad shade, I reckon with some pinky gloss over top I could definitely make it work. As it’s a semi-matte, it goes on easily, without dragging, and definitely felt smooth on the lips, rather than drying. So, I’m gonna try hard to incorporate this into my makeup routine as something a bit new and different. This is a full-sized item, valued at €21.

Another full-sized item included was the Browcote Waterproof Brow Sealer from Lipcote. I’ve heard of Lipcote as a brand before, and I’ve wanted to try their lipstick sealer for ages, so I was disappointed to see some subscribers had received it instead of this! However, a brow gel is always something I’ll use, so it won’t go to waste at all. I tried it out on my brows today, and a little goes a long way, this stuff is rock solid, it sets your brows in place so well that they definitely will not budge at all. Not the most exciting of additions, but one most subscribers will use I’m sure. This is valued at €8.95.

Next up was the only sample sized item in the box, the Lavera Basis Sensitiv All-Round Cream. It’s an ultra rich moisturiser that can be used on both face and body, and promises to be a perfect makeup primer. It smells so nice, down to the addition of organic shea butter and almond oil. At first, I thought it may be really heavy to use on the face, but upon testing it, it feels quite lightweight and absorbed quickly into the skin. My only slight gripe is the packaging. The little tin looks neat and compact, but the lid keeps falling off which is so irritating, so I wouldn’t be popping this in a travel bag, as I’d imagine it’ll end up going everywhere! This is a sample size, but a full-sized tub retails at €8.95.

Next up, another full-sized item is the GOSH Mono Eyeshadow in Dark Green. I’ve had quite a few GOSH products before, and loved them, but honestly this is the dud of the box for me. Yeah, I get it, a forest green is good for a festive look, but unfortunately I would just never wear this shade on my lids. I was rather disappointed to find this in my box, as I’d understood that the products were meant to match the lipstick to create a ‘look’ but I personally wouldn’t have paired the lipstick shade with this shadow, nor would have I have paired the red lip with it either. But that’s just my preference, plenty of subscribers will adore this. This full sized shadow pan is valued at €9.99.

*In this photo and the swatch photo below, the shadow looks almost greyish for a smokey look, but trust me, in real life it is a sparkly dark green!*

Finally, the last full-sized item included was the Essence Light Up Your Face Luminzer Palette. I love Essence products, but in a way I often think, oh well I could’ve picked that up in Penneys, when one pops up in my box. It can be a tad disappointing receiving such an affordable brand that is very common in Ireland, instead of a more niche or unusual brand. Still though, I was happy with this little strobing trio, ‘cos I’m a huge fan of highlighters in general! The three shades are lovely, with the left one being the only matte one, and it is quite light, but I think I can make it work on the browbone. The other two shades are shimmery, a light pearl and a golden glow, and all three feel creamy to the touch. I havent popped them on my face yet, but I’m dying to give this palette a whirl. This is valued at €4.95.

Swatches L-R: MDMflow lipstick in ‘Bossy’, GOSH eyeshadow in ‘Dark Green’, Essence light up your face palette (3 shades)

So that’s the lot! I’ll be honest, my first impression was that this box is a pile of crap. I went as far as to text my boyfriend, who very kindly pays for my Glossybox, to cancel the subscription as I thought it was complete and utter shite. However, when I played around with it, my thoughts changed a little. Yeah, the eyeshadow will go in the bin, it is of no use to me. The lipstick? Well, although it’s not my usual shade, I’ve vowed to wear it at least once, to try something new. I’ll obviously get plenty of use from the brow gel, and I’ll use the cream, either on my face or body. Finally, the Essence highlighters are a nice little addition to my already heaving highlight collection, but a welcome addition at that. Basically, its all ok, but nothing wowed me. It’s a pity, as last year’s December box was one of the best I’ve ever received.

Next month’s sneak peek is an eyeshadow from The Balm, and to be honest, it’s all too reminiscent of the teeny sample sizes they send out in Birchbox, and the shades don’t really appeal to me, so it’s not really something that I’m getting excited about.

So what are your thoughts on this month’s Glossybox? Did you receive anything different in your box? Let me know in the comments below!

50 Facts About Me!

I’ve been blogging on here for almost 2 years now, and apart from rambling about personal things like knickers, ingrown hairs and acne, I haven’t given too much away about me, myself and I. Personally, I’m not all about posting selfies and slapping my mush all over the world-wide web for every Tom, Dick and Harry to have a gawk at, nor do I like the idea of over sharing about my personal life. But I’ve seen this 50 Facts About Me tag pop up on a few blogs lately, and I thought it might be nice to give you a few little facts about the girl behind the blog.

  1. I live in Dublin, Ireland. I love where I live and will never move. I’m more of a city girl, the countryside and I don’t get on too well.
  2. I have a little dog called Bella. She is a miniature Yorkie, she is 3 years old. She is teeny tiny and she is the centre of my universe. She’s my little fur baby.
  3. I like to dress my dog in little jumpers and coats in the winter. And the occasional dress or costume the rest of the year…. Yup, I’m crazy.
  4. I live with my boyfriend of 5 years, approximately 5 minutes down the road from my family home, where my parents and 2 younger sisters live. I go home every single day, my family are a huge part of my life.
  5. I have brown eyes and brown hair.
  6. I drive a Nissan Note. I like it, I don’t love it, but I had to buy it after I wrote off my Toyota Yaris last year.
  7. Speaking of car crashes, I’ve been in 3 crashes in the past 2 years. But before you think I’m the worst driver in the world, I was only driving once (that time the car in front jammed on for some unknown reason, and when I hit the brakes my car skidded on the wet road and smashed into a motorway barrier) the other 2 times I was passenger in a minibus in my job. So as a result of all these crashes I am extremely nervous when travelling by car or bus!
  8. Speaking of fears, I’m not a very good flyer. But I won’t let fear of flying stop me from travelling. I have Valium and alcohol to help me out 😉
  9. My dream is to visit every Disney theme park in the world. So far it’s 3 down, 3 to go.
  10. My favourite animal is the Giant Panda. I love to watch Panda documentaries, and read about them. One of my highlights was visiting the Panda exhibit in Edinburgh Zoo where I swear to god, Tian Tian the panda waved at me. No joke.
  11. My favourite drink is tea. On average I’ll have 6 cups a day.
  12. I always have at least one candle lighting when I’m at home.
  13. My favourite Harry Potter book is The Goblet Of Fire.
  14. Grease is my favourite film, I could watch it over and over again.
  15. I don’t like foods that float. For example, stew, casseroles, minestrone soups or anything where bits of food are floating in liquid make me feel ill.
  16. On the same note, onions and mushrooms also freak me out.
  17. I love McDonalds alot. I probably eat it once a week, which I know isn’t healthy but it makes me happy.
  18. I am obsessed with copper homeware items. If it’s copper, I need it in my house.
  19. I am a Dublin GAA Football season ticket holder. I went to my first gaelic football match at the age of 15 with my uncle, and have been hooked ever since. I love nothing more than going to Croke Park to cheer on the boys in blue.
  20. I buy Stellar magazine every month, and have a subscription to US beauty magazine Allure.
  21. Angelina Jolie wrecks my head, I can’t stand her.
  22. My favourite social networks are Instagram & Snapchat.
  23. I love cereal. My favourites are Cornflakes, Rice Krispies, Cheerios or Frosties.
  24. Penneys is my favourite shop, I visit it at least once a week, and usually buy a few bits every month.
  25. My favourite sandwich is chicken & stuffing on white bread.
  26. I once spent €50 on a Winnie The Pooh teddy because it had a hat and little jacket on it.
  27. I have a deep deep love for Mozzarella sticks. Sadly, not enough places in Ireland serve this delicacy, so whenever I visit The States I try to eat as much deep-fried cheese as possible.
  28. I once broke my nose while skiing, and now hate the thoughts of skiing, surfing or any form of activity break.
  29. Speaking of strenuous activity, I climbed the fifth highest waterfall in the world when in Yosemite National Park, California. It was so difficult, and I hated every minute, particularly when I was bitten by a bug as I was climbing wet steps behind a waterfall. I managed to complete the hike, but did not enjoy one bit of it, and do not have fond memories of Yosemite.
  30. I do not like exercise. I can tolerate swimming, or a walk, but that’s about it. I have never once experienced these so-called ‘endorphins’ that people say they get from exercise.
  31. My GHD is one of my most prized possessions.
  32. I have an honours degree in Social Care, from Dublin Institute of Technology.
  33. As I work in healthcare, I am well used to dealing with gross things such as bodily fluids. I sometimes forget that not everyone is as used to these things as I am, and often have a habit of talking about poo or snot at the dinner table, much to everyone else’s dismay.
  34. Although I’m used to gross things, as a patient in hospital earlier this year, I had my first experience using a bedpan. It was one of the most traumatising moments of my life, and although I can laugh about it now, it was definitely my lowest point of 2016.
  35. I am petrified of birds. I will often cross the road to avoid a pigeon.
  36. David Beckham is my ultimate celebrity crush.
  37. The Simpsons is my favourite TV show. I say quotes from the show most days.
  38. I love quizzes.
  39. I let my dog sleep in my bed with me.
  40. I always sit with a blanket wrapped around me, winter or summer.
  41. My favourite number is 8.
  42. I haven’t missed an episode of Home & Away in years.
  43. I hate getting my hair cut. Going to the hairdressers stresses me out, so I only go about once a year.
  44. My favourite beauty brand is Soap & Glory.
  45. I rarely wear nail polish, but when I do it always chips off quickly, no matter what base coat or top coat I apply.
  46. I hate grocery shopping so much that I beg my boyfriend to do it for me.
  47. My favourite cocktail is a long island ice tea.
  48. I watch Mary Poppins at least once a fortnight.
  49. I have 2 Michael Kors handbags. One which I love, and one which I kind of regret buying.
  50. I have never tasted coffee.

So that’s the lot! Some rather useless facts about me 🙂 I’d love to see your 50 Facts About Me posts, so if you’ve done one, please link it below, or if this inspires you to do one, be sure to let me know.

Glossybox UK November 2016 Review!

It’s that time of the month again, Glossybox time! It seemed like I was waiting forever for this box to arrive, so I was delighted when I arrived home from work last night to find it waiting for me! The shipping seemed really slow this month, I noticed customers in the UK posting about their boxes from last Tuesday, yet mine arrived almost a week later. It’s difficult to avoid spoilers when us Irish customers are so far behind the Brits 😦

Anyway, this month we were treated to 5 items, 4 of which were full-sized, and a teeny little sweet treat in the box too. Let’s take a closer look at the contents…

First up, I spotted this rather large foil packet, the 111 Skin Bio Cellulose Facial Treatment Mask. It is one of the ever popular ‘sheet mask’ style of face masks, although this one is gold! I think it may be one of those jelly kind of ones? It promises to enhance the absorption of moisture to create a protective barrier that will keep skin perfectly hydrated. Pretty good for winter when a lot of people’s skin will be feeling the effects of the colder weather, this could also be a nice treat for the skin during the party season- a skin hangover cure perhaps! My only complaint is that we got a similar product only 2 boxes ago in the September box, and similar sheet masks for the under eyes in the June box, so while I enjoy products like this, it does feel a little bit repetitive. This is a full-sized item and valued at €23.

Next up, another full-sized item, a pack of 3 Wilkinson Sword Quattro razors. Well, a girl always needs razors I guess… Though let’s be honest, leg shaving becomes less of a priority in the winter when we’re more covered up! Speaking of repetition, we only got Wilkinson Sword razors in the February box, so yeah while I’m happy with the inclusion as I know I’ll use them, they’re hardly the most exciting of additions? Also, whats with the whole ‘raspberry scented handles’ gimmick? Do my razor handles really need to be scented? Bizarre! Wilkinson Sword razors are really good though, so I’m sure they will work well at leaving my pins silky smooth! These retail at €8 a pack.

Next up, the only travel sized item in the box was this hair care product, the Nanogen Root Boost Hair Thickening Spray. Now, at first glance I pulled it out of the box and was like, meh….a little sample, looks a bit medicinal, nothing too exciting. However after reading the product information leaflet, I’m a bit more intrigued to try it out. It is supposedly ‘a salon blowdry in a bottle’ promising to thicken and volumise the hair, leaving it feeling big and bouncy. I’m looking forward to giving this a whirl, as my hair is often really limp and lifeless looking, so anything that gives it a bit of a lift is a winner to me! A full-sized bottle of this costs €12, so this sample is worth about €4.

Next up, another full-sized item with the Ruby Professional Large Tapered Blending Brush. I LOVE getting brushes in my Glossybox, so I was really pleased with this one. I have yet to use this, but even just swirling it on my skin I can already feel how lovely and soft the bristles are, yet they feel firm, so I think this will work really well at blending shadow around the eye, or even applying highlighter on small areas of the face. It’s also a cruelty-free brush with synthetic bristles, which is a plus point. This is valued at €8.

Finally, the last full-sized item is the De Bruyere Beauté Jumbo Eye Pencil in the shade ‘Bubble 07’ As you can see from the swatch above, it’s a really nice khaki-grey shade, perfect for a smokey eye look. It seems to be a really creamy formula which will be easy to apply, I’m looking forward to trying it out. I’m rather rubbish at creating eye looks, so I love eye crayons like this that can create an effortless all over lid look! This is valued at €15.

Finally, as a little bonus, there was a Raffaello chocolate treat included in the box. I’ve heard a lot of hype about these sweeties recently, however it wasn’t really to my taste, I’m not mad on nuts or coconut flavours! I do love when Glossybox add in little extras like this though. They also added in 3 discount codes and voucher cards for various lifestyle and fashion brands, which is great when you’re in the UK but a fat lot of good for us living in Ireland. Glossybox frequently add in £40 vouchers for meal subscription boxes, which can’t be used here, so why bother? It would be great to see them team up with some Irish brands to give discount codes or vouchers for us subscribers in the Emerald Isle.

Anyway, I’m happy enough with this month’s box. I’ll definitely use the brush and the razors, and I’ll use the face mask as a treat some time soon. I’m hoping the eye pencil and hair thickening spray work out well for me! So although it wasn’t the most exciting of boxes, I think it is one of the more useful ones I’ve gotten recently. Next month’s edition sounds interesting, the sneak peek states that subscribers will ‘get to choose their own box, with two seasonal looks to choose from, an email revealing more is on it’s way’ so I’m very intrigued to see what the choices will be!

Liz Earle Orange Flower Botanical Body Wash Review!

You guys will have seen me wax lyrical on here about shower gels on more than one occasion before, so it won’t be a surprise to you to see another rave review on a body wash. Ok, I know what you’re thinking- sure really what does it matter what body wash you use? It all goes down the drain anyway, right? Well, yeah I suppose it does. But I just love a little in-shower treat. For me, a nice body wash is a vital part of my daily shower routine. And this hero product from Liz Earle is the key element to a happy shower for me. The Orange Flower Botanical Body Wash is one of a number of body wash offerings from Liz Earle, and the only one I’ve tried so far. It has the most heavenly citrus scent, which is perfect to wake me up in my morning shower. It is SLS free, and its natural ingredients mean it is perfect for even the most sensitive skin types. I pour the tiniest amount onto my loofah, and thanks to its foaming agents from natural sources, it foams up a treat, and leaves my skin perfectly cleansed, along with feeling soft and smooth. I also use this for shaving my legs, and it works really well, and my skin doesn’t feel dried out like when I use shave gels. The inclusion of ten essential oils means the delicate scent lingers on my skin, which feels nourished as a result of daily use.

This really is an all round amazing product, and is a lovely treat for yourself or as a gift for someone special. Yes, it is pricey at €17.25 for a 200ml bottle, but as I mentioned above, a little goes a long way, so a bottle will last for quite a while. You can pick up Liz Earle products from their online store here, or from Boots.

Have you tried the Orange Flower Botanical Body Wash? What is your favourite Liz Earle product? Let me know in the comments below!

The Las Vegas Haul: Part 1- Clothing! (Victoria’s Secret, PINK, Abercrombie & More!)

As I mentioned in my London Primark Haul, I recently visited Las Vegas, and boy did I so some shopping. We hit up all the malls and shops in the casinos, and also visited the Las Vegas Premium Outlets North too. Now, it was mainly beauty items and some gifts for family, but I did pick up some clothing and shoes for myself, so I thought I’d show you what I spent my dollars on…

So let’s start with my buys from the Outlets. If you’re ever in Las Vegas I’d highly recommend a visit to the Premium Outlets North. It’s about $15 in a taxi from the strip. There are 175 stores, from high end brands to more affordable brands, and there is something for everyone there.

First up, I picked up this tee from American Eagle. I liked the little slogan and the colours, along with how the back is that teeny bit longer than the front. I think it will go well with my grey skinny jeans and trainers. This was around $10. I was quite disappointed with American Eagle in general. On previous trips I have bought quite alot there, but this time I didn’t like the kind of more grungy yet skimpy direction that they were going in, which was disappointing.

Also in the outlets I picked up these grey sweats from GAP. They’re nice and lightweight, and I liked how they are cuffed at the end, and they’re quite slim fitting and not too sloppy like other sweats I own. These turned out to be kinda pricey, so they were around $30, which was probably a bit more than I should’ve paid for them.

Another pair of grey sweats that I probably didn’t need but bought anyway were these ones from Reebok. They’re a bit more fleecy inside than the others, and are softer feeling and have the same cuff bottoms style that I like. These were also in the outlets and a bit more reasonable than the GAP ones, at about $17.

Next up in the Tommy Hilfiger Outlet (where I bought my parents and auntie some gifts) I spotted this really nice knitted jumper. I never see anything in Tommy Hilfiger for myself, so I was pleasantly surprised with this one. It’s a kind of biscuit coloured heavy knit jumper and I just adore it. It’s so cosy and I love the style of it, I plan on keeping it to wear at Christmas. This was around $35.

Finally in the Outlets, I picked up these UGG boots. I know, I know, UGGs are long gone out of fashion, but you know what? I don’t care! They are by far the comfiest shoes ever, and are always my winter staple footwear. So I was delighted to find these cool boots that are a twist on the classic style, with the added knitted cuff and buckle detail. They’re really cosy and I’ll be pairing them with jeans, leggings and skirts with tights all winter. These were a complete bargain at $90.

Everything else that I picked up came from stores in the Casino malls, or in the Fashion Show Mall.

Next up, I found this cute cami top in Abercrombie & Fitch. I loved the autumnal colours and thought it would look nice with a cardi and jeans. You know me, I love a simple cami top! This was a steal at $10.

These shoes were something I was so excited to get my hands on. You guys know I’m  massive Disney fan, and as soon as I’d heard that Vans were doing a Toy Story range, I knew I’d need them in my life. They actually launched while we were in Las Vegas, so I got them on the day they were released. I mean, look at them. I love the whole Toys in Andy’s room design, but let’s be honest, the best part is the Andy signature on the right sole. I’m over the moon with these. So much so, that I even brought the box home in my luggage! These were pretty pricey at $70, but I had to have them. I’m plan on bringing them on my Walt Disney World trip next year.

Now, I learned something about myself on this trip. I learned that I have no willpower when it comes to PINK, the Victoria’s Secret store. I love the style of all the casual clothes there, and as you will see, I spent alot of money in there.

First up, I picked up this tee. I love the greyish blue colour, and the simple style. It’s a great length, perfect for wearing with leggings, and it is so soft and cosy. I kinda wish I’d picked up some more of these in different colours now! This was $27.

Somewhat randomly, they kept handing me free pairs of pants with my purchases. It worked anyway, cos I went back and hauled up a storm on their underwear. This photo is probably already TMI, but I’m not gonna show you all the other pairs that I got. They have a great range of knickers, from boypants, to little shorts to the more skimpy numbers. Whatever floats your boat. While I was there, the offer was 7 pairs for $27.50 which was fantastic, so I made sure I stocked up.

I have to apologise for this photo. I mean the t-shirt is in a ball of creases. I have since realised that it is an absolute bitch to iron, so I’m glad I only bought one of these. I liked the long length of this and the cute criss cross design at the neck. In the store they had these teamed up with little bralettes underneath, so the slight bit of lace was peeking through  the top. I bought a little pinky coloured bralette at the ridiculous price of $30 (gulp) but to be honest when I wore it with the tee you could barely see it so it was kinda pointless. I do like this top, but it probably wasn’t worth the $25 I spent on it.

I picked up this sweatshirt too, it’s different from the typical style of hoodie I usually go for. I like the zip opening on the neckline, and the different shades of grey are perfect for casual winter wear. Yes, PINK is a bit out there with the print all over their clothes, but I love it! This was around $50 I think.

Another hoodie I picked up was this blue one. It’s a little more ‘normal’ than the other styles I’ve chosen from PINK. I’m actually wearing it now as I type, and its oh-so comfy, really soft and cosy. It’s also a bit longer than usual hoodies, which I like. This was also around $50. Yes, the clothes from PINK are kinda pricey in comparison to other brands, but honestly, I still have clothes from the brand from years ago that are still in great condition, so I think they’re worth the investment.

There was an offer in store that when you bought a hoodie you got a pair of sweats for $20, which I think was half price. As I was picking up the hoodies, I took the opportunity to grab even more sweats. I chose this charcoal grey pair, and I have lived in them ever since. They’re a slim fit on the leg, and I love the little tie up design at the waist, along with the more simple (by PINK standards anyway) logo on the leg. They are so comfy, I wish I’d bought several pairs in this style!

I also picked up these sweats as part of the $20 offer. These are a little more out there than the last pair. I love the little zip detail on the ankle, and the PINK logo on the leg and waistband. These fit pretty tight, almost like leggings, but they are so warm and cosy, I love wearing them!

Finally, this sweatshirt is my favourite purchase from PINK. I like how they do location specific clothing, so I wanted to pick up something from the Las Vegas range. I chose this top in a bigger size so it was slouchy, and I barely took it off for the entire week of our holiday. It is the most comfortable item of clothing that I own. Just popping this top on makes me so happy, and it’s perfect to wear when feeling cold, under the weather or just a bit hungover, as it’s like you’re being wrapped in a warm hug. I am just obsessed with it.  I think this was around $50 too.

So that’s the lot in terms of clothing! I don’t know about you, but when I visit The States, I only ever find casual clothing, I find it really hard to find evening or dressy clothes? Are you guys the same?

Be sure to keep your eye on the blog, as later in the week I’ll be popping up my other haul posts including a hell of a lot of makeup from Sephora, and some other random bits including alot of candles from Bath and Body Works!
