Glossybox UK July 2016 Review!

You guys know that my favourite time of the month is Glossybox time! I love arriving home to find a little box of surprise beauty goodies waiting for me after a long day of work. This month’s edition was fantastic, filled with 5 full-sized items! There’s a great mix of makeup, hair care & skin care items, from some familiar brands and other new discoveries. Let’s take a closer look….

First up, is the UTAN & Tone Nourishing Night Creme, which we were given a sneak peek of last month. This is a 25ml tube, which seems pretty small for a full size! Anyway, this magical formula contains all the usual benefits of night creme including hyaluronic acid, vitamins and anti-oxidants, along with a gradual tanner that promises to give the skin a light golden colour. It’s an odourless formula that won’t stain your pillow, seriously could it get any better? I’m usually too scared to self tan my face, so this sounds like it will be perfect for me to use when I’m tanning my body so I don’t have a ghostly face and a bronzed bod! This full-sized tube retails at €15.

Next up, is the Icona Milano Emotion Allowed Mascara. Apologies for the lack of photos of the wand, I already have a couple of mascaras on the go, and I really don’t wanna open another one in case it dries out too quickly! This is a new brand to me, I’ve never heard of them before. This mascara has a water, sweat and humidity resistant formula that promises an intense colour and a buildable formulation for an amped up false lash effect. It all sounds great to me! This is also full-sized and valued at €15.60!

Also in the makeup category is the Hawaiian Tropic Island Berry Lip Gloss SPF 25. We received another Hawaiian Tropic product a few months ago that I loved, so I was pleased with this inclusion. It’s a rather massive 20ml squeezy tube, with an impressive SPF25, which I’ll admit, I never really think of sun protection for my lips, but it’s a nice addition. This is a light non sticky formula that applies easily and smoothly, leaving a nice coral flush to the lips. I didn’t think I’d like this as much as I do, I’ll definitely get a lot of use from this one! This is a full sized item valued at €9.

The next item included is the Blank Canvas Cosmetics F20 Flat Brush. Oh. My. God. How gorgeous is the hot pink and gold design? I’m in love. I’ve bought Blank Canvas Cosmetics brushes before and I really like them, so I cannot wait to give this one a whirl. It’s a multi purpose brush constructed from short, dense, synthetic fibres that can be used for cream, liquid or powder products! I plan on trying it out as a way to apply foundation, as I love buffing liquid products into the skin with brushes like these as they give a more flawless look. I’m seriously so impressed with this inclusion, its possibly one of the best items that I’ve ever received in a Glossybox! This is valued at €15. (I’ll be sure to report back with my thoughts once I test it out a few times.)

Finally, we come to hair care, and the Hairon De-Tangling Brush. Again, I was so pleased to receive this. It reminds me of my much-loved Tangle Teezer, but the difference with this one is that its supposed to work great on wet hair, when it’s more vulnerable to breakage. It’s an ergonomically designed brush which fits perfectly into the palm of your hand to carefully detangle wet hair without snagging and tugging. It also claims to be great for natural hair extensions that need a touch up, and can also be used on dry hair. I quickly ran it through my hair earlier, and it feels lovely and comfortable to use and didn’t pull too hard at my rather straggly ends! I’m well impressed! This is also full-sized, and valued at €9!

So there you have it, a practically perfect Glossybox in every way! Five full-sized items, a great mixture of hair care, makeup & skin care products, and completely relevant to this current season. I wish I’d received this box before I went on holiday, because the contents are absolutely perfect for anyone travelling to sunnier destinations this summer, with everything based around beach life, with sun protection, fake tan, and waterproof makeup all included, not forgetting perfect multi tasking brushes for your hair and your makeup! This box is valued at a rather substantial €64 (which greatly surpasses the €14 pricetag!) Birchbox take note-this is how you do a beauty subscription box!

In my 18 months of being subscribed to Glossybox, I think this just might be the best ever box. If all boxes were this good, I’d be one seriously happy customer. I do think Glossybox has been knocking it out of the park for the past few months, they just keep getting better and better. Next month, subscribers can choose between which one of four full-sized MUA Eyeshadow Palettes they would like to receive in their boxes, which is great!

If you’re interested in signing up for Glossybox, it costs £10/€14 per month (plus P&P) but at the moment they’re running a great deal where you can get TWO boxes for the price of one, that’s 10 products for the bargain price of £10/€14!! You can sign up for this great offer here.

What did you think of this month’s edition? Did you receive anything different in your box? Let me know in the comments below!

HUGE Fashion & Homeware Haul feat. Primark, New Look & Tons More!

PicMonkey Collage.jpg

Yup, there has been some more hauling over here on Just My Look. At this stage I’ve given up on disclaimers about my spending, you all know I just like things. All I can say is this collective haul has occurred over the last 4 weeks or so, not just in one big spree…. Anyways, let’s get cracking, as there’s ALOT to talk about!

First stop is Penneys (which is the Irish name for Primark) where I picked up a few bits…

Yup, I’ve picked up another Snow White nightie. You’ll have seen from my last haul that I got a nice one in Dunnes Stores, but that didn’t stop me buying this one in Penneys! I just love the whole Evil Queen design on it, and the scared Snow White print, along with the pink and white colours. I picked this up in a size small, but after wearing it a few times I wish I’d gone for a bigger size to wear it a little baggier for comfort. This was €10.

Yup, this is TMI cos I’m sure nobody wants to see my pants, but I got these cute Little Miss & Mr. Men boypants in Penneys for the bargain price of 50 cent. They’re so comfy, and I always loved Mr. Men when I was a kid, so I thought why not, eh? Can’t beat a nice pair of comfy pants😛

More childish items, this time it was this cute Mickey Mouse tee. I love the brownish/purple colour, and the striped design on the sleeves, along with the understated Mickey logo on the chest. Seriously, I cannot get enough of Primark’s Disney tops. This was €8. I’d like to say this will be the last Disney tee that I buy for a while, but with the deposit finally being placed on my 2017 Orlando trip, I know I’ll continue to buy Disney clothing for the next few months!

Next up, are some shoes that I knew I needed as soon as I spotted them on social media, so when I saw them in store I practically grabbed them and sprinted to the tills! I just adore these beautiful embroidered heels, the design is just so pretty! Now they’re quite high and let’s face it, with the whole pointed toe and stiletto heel, I know these are not gonna be too comfy. But I think they’ll be really nice worn with a simple cami top and a pair of skinny jeans, as a statement heel. These were a great price at €22!

I also picked them up in this beige/nude colour too. It’s the same style, but I thought the lighter colour would be nice for wearing in the summer and will go with different outfits than the black ones. And basically, I found it hard to decide which ones I preferred, so I got both!

Next stop, New Look, where I picked up this nice cream crop top. I was instantly drawn to the cute floral lace design, and I thought it would match really well with my grey maxi skirt from BooHoo. I have already worn this while on holiday in Spain, and it works so well with the long skirt, which is high-waisted, so not too much of my belly is on show. I can’t remember how much this cost, I think it was around €12. I know I’ll get a lot of wear out of this one!

Also in New Look, I spotted some Copper items on their Homeware Sale stand and zoomed right in on the candle holders. From previous hauls, you’ll know I love Copper homeware items, and I am candle obsessed, so I had to pick up these cute little tealight holders for my living room. The teeny little tealight holders were reduced to €1.25 for the set, and I think they’ll be perfect for around my fireplace. The trio of glass tealight holders were *I think* €6, which is also a great price. I’m not sure where I’ll place these, as I have a ridiculous amount of candles and tealight holders dotted all around my living room as it is at the moment!

Next stop, Tiger (or Flying Tiger as I believe is its new rebranded title) where I picked up some random useless items. I got this little metal shopping trolley, which I think is meant to be a desk tidy, but I thought it would work well for taking blog photos. I also got this pack of mini wooden pegs, which I’ve actually bought before, for hanging photos and other things on a string in my house. I think the trolley was €4 and the pegs were €2.

Next up, I popped into Dunnes Stores and spotted this basic grey cardigan hanging on the sale rail. I already own the same type of cardi in burgundy that I picked up in the January sales, so I knew how comfy this one would be. The grey colour means it will go with so much in my wardrobe, and I love the nice long length. This was €10 in the sale.

Next stop Pull & Bear, where I spotted this cute slogan tee. I like the loose baggy style, and think it’ll be cute for wearing with leggings or jeans. It would be a perfect gym tee (if I actually ever did any exercise…) but for me it’ll probably be perfect for a bad day in work! This was €7.99.

While I was in Spain, I found a Bershka store near to our hotel, and with a big sale going on, I had to pop inside and check it out! I saw so much stuff that I liked, but with luggage restrictions I had to keep my haul small. So although it was tough, I stayed away from all the cute shorts, playsuits and dresses that I knew I’d never get to wear in Ireland (let’s face it, our summer is the same as our winter!) so I picked up these 2 cute sweaters. I love the slogan on the first one, and the really nice wine colour will look nice with jeans and trainers. Then I chose the basic grey as it will also go with jeans, or my black and white Adidas tracksuit bottoms. These were a great price at €5.99 each!

Also in Spain, I spotted this popcorn bucket in the window of a novelty shop, and had to pick it up. I love any cute American style accessories like this, and as it reminded me of a popcorn bucket that Zack Morris would’ve munched from at the movies on Saved By The Bell, I had to pick it up. This was about €2.5o, which was a steal. I cannot wait to fill it with my favourite combination of microwave popcorn with butter, mixed with Malteasers. Delish!

Another random somewhat pointless purchase were these storage boxes that I picked up from TK Maxx. I loved the pink and mint colours mixed with rose gold, and I think they will be great in my ‘Beauty Room’ for storing makeup and other bits and bobs in, on my shelves. I think the smaller pink box was €6.99 and the larger green one €8.99 or thereabouts!

Also in TK Maxx I rather randomly chose this clipboard with 12 different prints of inspiring quotes, that you can mix and match to display somehow. In my mind I was like oh it’ll look great in Instagram posts (sad, but true) but I hope to display these on my shelves in my beauty room too. I think this was around €8.

Finally, I didn’t buy this, but I won it on a competition on the Celtic Candles Facebook page. I’ve mentioned my love for Celtic Candles before, so I was so pleased to get my hands on this! It’s such a cute birdcage style candle holder that has 4 little glass jars inside to pop some tealights in. I think it’s really pretty and girly, I love it! Now I just need to find a space in my house for it. This was worth €30, so it was a great win for me!

So, that’s the lot. Can I just say, well done if you actually made it to the end of this ridiculously long post! I have some more haul posts coming up, focused on makeup and beauty items, as I’ve been pretty spendy in the cosmetics section recently!

I’m On My Holidays!

Hi guys! Just a quick note to say that I’m off on my holidays to Spain for the next week, so things on Just My Look will be a bit quiet for the next 7 days or so, as I haven’t scheduled any posts  to go up. But I have quite a few posts up my sleeve for when I return, so you can expect lots more hauls, skincare & haircare posts in July:)

You can still keep up with me on Twitter and Instagram while I’m away!

Have a lovely week everyone x

Why I Cancelled My Birchbox Subscription….

You guys will know that I’m a long time Glossybox subscriber, and you may remember that earlier this year I signed up for a Birchbox subscription, as they launched in Ireland in February. I’d been reading about Birchbox on UK blogs for years, so I was excited that us Irish gals were finally getting the opportunity to sign up to another beauty box service! However, it didn’t really float my boat at all, and after a rather rubbish offering in the June box, I cancelled my subscription after 5 short months.

Why? Well, lets break it down here….

Very Slow Shipping: This was my major gripe with Birchbox. I mentioned it from the first month onwards, their shipping speed was really desperate altogether. For a tiny box that was being sent from across the pond in the UK, it took a ridiculous amount of time to reach me here in Dublin. On most occasions, I was waiting around 2 weeks after dispatch to receive my box, whereas UK subscribers were receiving theirs 2 days after they were sent out! This was really annoying.

Spoilers: As I mentioned above, as UK customers were receiving their boxes up to 10 days ahead of me, I was finding it impossible to avoid spoilers as the different box contents were splashed all across social media for me to see. Also, Birchbox release the month’s possible contents on their website before the box is dispatched, so subscribers are able to check out what items they might receive that month. However, on more than one occasion, I didn’t get any of the items advertised, which was pretty disappointing. I prefer the suprise element which you get with Glossybox, as it’s much more exciting!

Cost: I was on a rolling monthly subscription plan, meaning every month the fee was taken from my bank account. The cost was usually between €16.80-€17.80 varying on the currency conversion rates with Sterling (maybe with the whole Brexit ordeal Irish customers may get theirs a bit cheaper?) Now, I think €17 is a reasonable price to pay for a beauty box including shipping, but comparing it to Glossybox which is around the same price, well Birchbox just couldn’t compare. For me, the contents weren’t worth the money most of the time. Apart from woefully slow shipping, the product sizes just didn’t cut the mustard….

Product Sizes: Now, I was well aware when I signed up to Birchbox that the products I received would be mainly sample or travel sizes. I was ok with that, as I knew Birchbox sent out a lot of really good brands like Benefit and Caudalie, so I was happy to receive deluxe sample sizes of these kind of products. However, I don’t think I was prepared for the positively miniscule size of some of the items I received. Seriously a 0.04oz sized tube of highlighter isn’t gonna be much use is it? Not to mention the odd sachet or teeny vials of lotion I was also sent. I just felt that sometimes, for the €17 price tag, the product sizes were pretty piddly.

Product Variety: Well, there was always a good mix of products, and different brands which was good. The same brands weren’t always repeated, but when they were, they were always decent items for example Benefit and Spectrum products. Most boxes came with 5 (sometimes 6) items, usually with 1 or 2 makeup items, skincare, haircare & bodycare. I also enjoyed how there were sometimes brushes or tools included too. The only slight disappointment in the product variety was that within 5 months I received 3 sample sized leave in conditioner sprays, from different brands, but basically the same product.

Within the 5 months, I received 29 samples from Birchbox. 6 haircare products, 9 makeup items, 6 skincare products, 4 bodycare items, and 5 other random items such as hairbands, sponges, brushes, pillow sprays etc. Out of those 29 items, 5 of them were full-sized. Now, that’s not bad, but to put it into perspective, within the same 5 month period I received 28 products from Glossybox, 19 of which were full sized items.

So for the above reasons, I decided to cancel my Birchbox subscription. As much as I loved the surprise element each month; I found that I was disappointed more often than not, and that I was not getting many uses from the tiny samples before they ran out. It just didn’t feel like money well spent.

However, I will say that there were some really good aspects to Birchbox, such as the inclusion of well-known brands like Benefit Cosmetics, Caudalie and The Balm. I have discovered some really great items from Birchbox, such as the LOC Shadow Stick, the Model Co Brow Gel, and the Spectrum brushes. I also liked how Birchbox changed the design of the box every month, collaborating with brands, and creating different box styles like the June edition which was a drawer type box, which is great for storing your products in.

Another seeminly good thing about Birchbox is how they award you points for reviewing the products in your box, and these points are redeemable against items in the Birchbox store, which is great as you can buy the full sizes of your samples, or other items from really good brands. However, the snail’s pace continues with their online store, as before I cancelled my subscription, I redeemed my £30 worth of points against some products in the store. This was over 2 weeks ago, and the order is still processing, which is just another indicator of their pretty crap service.

Perhaps if I wasn’t already subscribed to Glossybox I would be a bit more impressed with Birchbox. Yes, as I’ve mentioned, there are alot of good aspects to Birchbox, but for me, the bad outweighs the good, and I’d rather keep my €17 each month to treat myself to something I really want in Boots or Penneys instead!

Yes…. I’ve been shopping again! Clothing & Random Haul :)

collage 111.jpg

I don’t need to even add a disclaimer here, you guys know I’m addicted to shopping. Since being off work sick, I’ve been following my Physiotherapist’s advice and taking regular short walks… around the shops… to spend all my money *hangs head in shame* So I thought you guys might like to see some of the items I picked up!

First up, a bit of a random one, but I picked up this rather large canvas print in Dunnes Stores, with the idea of putting it up in my beauty room (yes, I have converted my box room into a makeup room) I thought this was a really cute print and I loved the sparkly writing on it. Plus, this quote is perfect for me, as it is the story of my life, weekends are never long enough for me! This was in the sale for only €5 which I thought was a bit of a bargain. I’m currently doing up the ‘Beauty Room’ but if you’d like to see a post on it when it’s completed, do let me know!

If you’re not from Ireland, you may not recognise this, but I’m a Dublin GAA Football season ticket holder. So when they released a Dublin new jersey, I had to pick it up. It’s a different style than other recent jerseys, but I’m happy with the change, the lighter blue and white details are pretty nice (although I know that white collar is going to be covered in makeup straight away!) I bought the children’s size 10-11 as it fits me perfectly (I usually wear a size 8) and I like to wear them fitted instead of buying a mens size, as for some reason I can never find ladies versions in any sports shops around? Anyway, this was €45 but I’m a Three Mobile customer, and on the 3 Plus App they offer 20% off in Elverys Sports, so I got it for the bargainous price of €36. I was thrilled, as the adults sizes retail at €65. So if you’re looking for sportswear, try Elverys and use the 3 Plus App in store and online to save a few bob:)

Sticking with blue clothing, I spotted this lovely vest top in Dunnes Stores, and had to pick it up. I think it’ll be so nice with white jeans or denim shorts, and you can easily dress it up too for evening wear. This was a bargain at €10. Here’s hoping we get some nice weather so I can show it off!

Also in Dunnes Stores, I picked up this little random item, an insulated lunch bag! I just thought it was a really cute way to carry my lunch into work, and I like how it is like a cooler bag, so it will help keep things cold inside if we decide to go off for an al fresco lunch somewhere! This was €4, which I thought was a good price.

I love casual clothes, I’m a big fan of feeling comfy, so I love wearing sweatpants and t-shirts with trainers. So when I spotted these grey tracksuit bottoms in GAP, I knew I had to have them. They’re so comfy to wear, and I love the cuffed detail on the bottom. I chose to get these in an XS so they’d be a little bit more fitted, and they look really good on. These were reduced to €17 in the sale, which was a steal!

My boyfriend very kindly picked this mug up for me in Next, as I’m tea obsessed, and have a slight compulsion for collecting mugs. Anyway, I love the little ‘Queen of everything’ slogan, and have been reaching for this for my morning cuppa every day! I really love all the homeware items from Next, I wish I had the money to kit my house out in everything from there!

The next thing I picked up was this pretty top from TK Maxx. I never even look at the clothes in TK Maxx as I find it so overwhelming, but my auntie spotted this top for me and made me try it on. I instantly loved it, it’s such a pretty design, I love the blue and white stripes, and the lovely detail around the top. I think it will look great with denim shorts and sandals on holidays. This was €16.

Finally, back to Dunnes Stores, where I spotted this cute Snow White nightie. I had to have it, as you know I love Disney so much, I have to collect anything and everything Disney inspired! Now that the nights are getting warmer, I’m wearing nightshirts and lighter pyjamas to bed, and I thought this was a great find, even better as it was reduced to €10 in the sale!

Now, I’d love to say that’s all I bought, but I’d be lying. I have several more recent purchases for another Haul post, so keep your eyes peeled, as it will be up soon. Yes, I know my spending is bordering on the ridiculous, but I’ve been off work ill for 6 weeks now, I need to find some way to spend my days eh😉  If you’re interested, I also have a recent Primark Haul post here.

Have you been shopping lately? Let me know what you’ve picked up in the comments below!

Glossybox UK June 2016 Review!

Another month, another Glossybox! I’ve been subscribed for more than 18 months now, yet the excitement still hasn’t faded when I arrive home to see that the postman has delivered a little parcel of surprise goodies for me! I got this at the same time as my Birchbox (you can check out the full review here) and I also picked up the M&S Summer Beauty Box this week, so you could say its turned into a bit of a beauty box week here at Just My Look! Anyway, let’s get down to it, we’re back to the regular pink box design this month, and inside are 6 items! Let’s dive in shall we?

After a rather disappointing Birchbox, I ripped open my Glossybox to find it absolutely bursting with full-sized items! As far as I can tell, 4 of these items are full sized, with an extra bonus item thrown in this month. It’s a really nice mixture of skin care, body care and makeup items, all of which are perfect for this time of year! Let’s get into it anyway…

The first item I noticed was this huge silver box which literally jumped out at me! At first glance it appeared to be some kind of medicinal product along the lines of mosquito repellent or a head lice lotion… but it is in fact the Ladival Sun Protection Spray in SPF15. This is a full-sized bottle, and the perfect addition for me, as I’m off on holidays in a few weeks to Spain, so this will be great for then! This is a non-greasy, water-resistant formula, which is supposed to be the perfect product for those with sensitive skin, eczema, or sun allergies. It also protects from four types of UV rays, which many brands don’t. This sized bottle retails at €20 in Boots. Great addition, but we did only get a sun cream last month, and let’s face it, Ireland had a massive heat wave in May, so that’s probably our summer over with, so if I were a subscriber who wasn’t going on a sun holiday, I wouldn’t have much use for this. Just sayin’

Sticking with the whole sun care theme, the next item included was the De Bruyere After Sun Monoi Lotion. How pretty is the packaging? It’s a milky cream formula, that has a sort of floral mixed with coconut scent that is gorgeous! I’ve been rubbing it on my arm and sniffing away, dreaming of holidays as I type up this post! I’m really pleased with this addition, as I hadn’t bought any after sun lotion yet, so now I don’t have to. Again, it won’t suit everyone, but I’m delighted with it. Not sure if this is a full-sized product or how much it’s valued at, as I can’t find much information about it online, but this is a decent 50ml sized tube.

Nestled at the bottom of my box was this massive packet with something strange and squishy inside it. It’s the Spa To You Konjac Sponge, and well, I’m pretty intrigued by this one. It’s the latest cleansing trend from Japan and Korea, Konjac sponges gently exfoliate, deeply cleanse, refine pores and naturally hydrate the skin. I cannot wait to give this a go, and see how it works out with my skin. I’m not sure whether you’re meant to use a separate cleanser or what’s the story with this at all to be honest, I’ll need to do a bit of reading up on how to use it before scrubbing myself red raw, but I will report back when I try it out!

Sticking with skin care, next up is the Starskin Eye Catcher, Smoothing Bio-Cellulose Second Skin Eye Masks. These are also full-sized, valued at €10.50. It’s great to get two sachets of this, so you can have a couple of goes to really decide how you feel about the product. They are billed as super hydrating eye masks that reduce puffiness and dark circles. I’m looking forward to giving these a go, we previously had a Starskin Sheet Mask in the December Glossybox, which I enjoyed, but it was a bit of a faff, so these could be a nice easy option to reduce my ridiculous dark circles!

The only makeup item included is the Emite Lip & Cheek Tint, which we were given a sneak peek of last month. This is a gorgeous two in one tint to be used on lips and cheeks, and is perfect to pop in your handbag or for travel. I’ve tried it out on the lips already, and it applies beautifully, one application gives a lovely natural flush to the lips, but it can be built up for a deeper colour. It doesn’t have a shade name but when layered it gives a deep raspberry kind of look. I also love the packaging, it’s gorgeous! This is also a full-sized product. Emite is a brand we often receive in Glossybox, and I’ve really enjoyed all the items I’ve tried from them so far.

(Emite Lip & Cheek Tint, Swatched and Blended)

Finally, as an added bonus we got a sample 20ml sachet of the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructor Deep Conditioner for damaged hair. I’ve tried this before, and it’s a great product that smells amazing, and leaves your hair feeling silky smooth and soft. This is a generous sized sachet which will last at least 2 uses. I’m delighted that Glossybox have popped in this added extra, here’s hoping that they make a regular thing of it!

So there you have it, a pretty impressive selection from Glossybox this month! I have nothing to complain about this month, it was a fantastic mix of products, which makes up for a few lacklustre miniature products we have received in some boxes over the last few months. For me, Glossybox beats Birchbox hands down time and time again, as they provide a great mix of full-sized and deluxe sample sizes each month. I’ve been subscribed for over 18 months now, and can’t see me giving up any time soon, as I love the excitement of getting a surprise box of goodies in the post each month!

Birchbox UK June 2016 ‘Paradise Found’

It’s that time of the month again- Birchbox time! My Birchbox and Glossybox were both delivered on the same day this month, so you can check out a review of my Glossybox here!. Along with the M&S Summer Beauty Box I posted about yesterday, its turning into beauty box central around here this week! Anyway, I got my dispatch email for Birchbox on June 4th, yet it only arrived today June 14th. A little bit disappointing, as I’d seen UK subscribers posting about it from June 6th onwards, and it was so annoying having to wait around for mine!

I loved the design of this month’s box, with the palm tree illustration, the gorgeous summery colours and slide out drawer detail, instead of the usual box design. I think Birchbox should definitely look at redesigning their boxes to be this drawer style, as they could then become stackable and a great way to store your products! This box contains 5 products which are billed as being essential for sunny days. Let’s take a closer look….

First up is the Monuspa Enriched Body Cream in a 40ml sample bottle. I swear I could smell the scent of this from outside the outer cardboard box when I took it from the postman! I have previously tried another Monuspa product from Glossybox, and really liked it, so this was a nice addition. It has a really lovely citrus, essential oils fragrance, and the formula is light and easily absorbed on the skin. But body creams don’t really float my boat, so this isn’t something I’m overly excited about receiving, as it’ll probably end up thrown in the back of a drawer.

Next up was the Ainy Skincare Pure Lumiere Gommage Purete Eclat Visage. This is a 20ml sample tube of a gentle face scrub which promises to leave your skin smooth and radiant. I will give this a try, but again, it’s something I find it a bit difficult to get excited about, as it’s a teeny sample, and I did receive a teeny sample scrub from Birchbox only a few months ago. I just wish the size was a bit bigger to get a better idea of how much I like or dislike the product.

The only hair care item included was the Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle Leave in Conditioner. This wonder spray claims to detangle, de-frizz, add shine, protect against heat and safeguard colour, along with smelling like candyfloss. What more does a girl need, eh? I am pleased to receive this, but its the third time I’ve gotten one of these leave in conditioner type sprays in a Birchbox within 5 months. I would’ve preferred a different type of product instead as I’m still using leave in conditioner sprays from previous boxes!

More skin care, with the Absolution Le Nettoyant Pureté, in a 15ml tube. Again, I’m not overly excited about receiving a teeny tube of cleanser. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy skincare items immensely, but these teeny tubes never last me that long, surely a slightly bigger sample could have been provided? This is a gentle gel cleanser with natural ingredients which remove dirt and grime, reducing redness and irritation. I’ll probably take this away with me on holidays, and hope this little sample lasts a whole week!

Finally, the only makeup item included is the Cynthia Rowley Brightening Illuminator. Now, I sighed when I opened the box and saw the cardboard envelope, as I know that they usually contain piddly little samples, and I wasnt wrong. This 0.04oz tube is fairly miniscule, which is a bit crap. This is a cream formula that delivers a subtle sheen which has a pearlescent finish, which I think will be lovely for mixing with foundation, or for use on cheekbones, browbones and cupids bow for a natural glowing look. It does look like a great product, it’s just a pity it comes in such a miniature tube that will be gone in no time.

So, do I sound pretty negative throughout this post? I have to say, I feel pretty let down this month. It just seems like I was sent a selection of random products just thrown together, all of which are just a bit…meh. I’ve seen other subscribers this month receiving POP eyeshadow trios, full-sized Eyeko eyeliners and Stila lip glazes, whereas I’ve got a mix of teeny samples despite paying the same €17 subscription fee as everyone else. Will I continue my subscription to Birchbox? Well, at the moment I’m not too sure, especially compared to the contents of this month’s Glossybox (more on that tomorrow!)
