I can’t believe we’re at the end of June already! It feels like only yesterday that I was typing up my May favourites, and here we are now on the cusp of July. I love summer though, and I’m hoping that some good weather will finally hit Irish soil. Fingers crossed! Let’s get on to the favourites shall we? Starting with beauty…
I picked up this PS Love This Make Up Brush Cleanser spray in Penneys a while ago, but its only recently I’ve grown to love it. Now for €2.50, this isn’t going to be the highest standard of brush cleaner, but it does a pretty good job of spot cleaning my brushes. I mainly use it for giving my eye brushes a quick spritz to clean them up in between uses. It dries fairly quickly and doesn’t leave a residue or smell on the bristles like ones ive tried before. It does an ok job on face brushes, I find it works better on stippling brushes than more dense brushes like powder or buffing brushes, but its decent enough for getting some of the makeup from the brush before my weekly deep cleaning routine. I’d definitely recommend you pop one in your basket next time you visit Penneys!
While you’re in Penneys buying the brush cleanser, you may as well stop at the Essence stand and throw these 2 in your basket as well. I’ve already waxed lyrical about the Essence XXXL lip glosses, so I won’t harp on much more. I haven’t stopped using these since I got them, such amazing glosses for a great price!
Another brand I like to rave about is Soap & Glory. I discovered this Original Pink perfume last year, and have recently fallen back in love with it. It’s a gorgeous fresh, sweet scent that matches The Righteous Butter and the Clean On Me shower gel. I’m rubbish at describing scents, so next time you’re in Boots, go and sniff the tester, you won’t regret it. The best part is, its only €19 for a 50ml bottle, so it won’t break the bank. It lasts a decent amount of time on the skin, and the bottle is sturdy enough to pop in your handbag without worrying about it breaking. A definite favourite for the summer!
Speaking of summer, it’s the time of year when my already shiny skin gets even shinier and greasier looking, so I need a good powder to keep it in check. The Bourjois Healthy Balance powder is a gorgeous smooth powder that feels soft to the touch and is so finely milled it sweeps onto the skin beautifully to set foundation, giving an airbrushed look. It doesn’t settle into pores or go cakey, it keeps shine away, and the best part is the sturdy packaging with a mirror in the lid! I’ve had this for months and using it regularly, it still hasn’t hit pan, so it lasts a long time too. Great quality, affordable powder!
I also found myself loving some film and TV shows that I really didn’t think I’d be into. In fact I really surprised myself in loving them so much, so now I’m trying to broaden my horizons away from my usual Disney and onto some other genres!
First up, a movie I never thought I would enjoy, Jurassic World. I only went to see it because my sister wanted to, but I’m so glad I did. I was enthralled from the beginning to end, yes the characters are paper-thin, but what does it matter, everyone knows the storyline is mainly about people getting chomped by dinosaurs! The effects were fantastic, and I was genuinely drawn in, finding myself squealing at the screen and jumping in fright more times than I should admit to. Seriously, even if this isn’t your usual choice of film I’d recommend you go see it. It’s definitely the best follow up to the original Jurassic Park so far. You know what it’s going to be about, so it doesn’t require a great deal of thinking, but grab the popcorn, sit back and enjoy, you’ll love it!
Another show I didn’t think I’d love was Orange Is The New Black. Seriously, this show is so good, I’d recommend you take out a Netflix subscription for this alone. Basically it follows Piper Chapman, a young upper middle class woman from New York, on her admission to and journey through Litchfield women’s prison. It’s a comedy-drama series, that will have you laughing till your sides hurt, but also gripped by the fantastic storylines. It features a few familiar faces, and some really great acting talent. So far there are 3 series, 13 episodes each, so plenty for you to sink your teeth into, but once you start watching, you won’t be able to stop. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
