I could review this product in 6 words- You. Need. This. In. Your. Life. Seriously, this little sponge has revolutionised the way I apply foundation. Go on, go buy it now, I’ll wait here while you shell out your hard-earned cash on it.
See that’s the thing that put me off buying it for so long- the price. I eventually picked it up when I was in New York in Sephora, where it set me back $20 (plus tax- gulp) Seriously, 20 quid on a sponge… this better live up to the hype I thought to myself, and thank god it did! This little sponge is like no other.
To use it, I soak it under running water, making sure it’s completely wet right through, then I squeeze it all out and squish it around in a towel to make sure all the excess water is gone. Then I’m left with a damp sponge but it’s not just a damp sponge- oh no, this my friends, is a magical tool. I dab the rounded bottom part into my foundation and basically bounce it all over my face. Yup, there’s no better way I can describe it, I basically sit there and bounce this little guy’s butt all over my mush until my foundation is applied. It literally takes seconds, and better still, it leaves the most amazingly flawless yet natural finish. It never looks cakey, just smooth and natural. Despite wetting the sponge, it doesn’t soak in all of the foundation, in fact I find I use less product than when I use a brush, and it gives such good coverage, I never need to go in and add extra layers. I use the pointed tip of the beauty blender to apply concealer under my eyes or on blemishes, and the same fantastic results occur there too. Seriously, I can’t say many bad things about this bad boy.
I don’t use it all the time, I’ll be honest. I still use my buffing brushes, mainly out of habit to be truthful. But if I’m aiming for absolute base perfection, this is the tool I’ll use. It’s definitely my prized possession when it comes to special occasion makeup, and honestly, I’d be devastated if I ever lost it. I’ve previously tried the budget alternative, the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, but lets face it, it just doesn’t compare to the original beauty blender, so don’t even waste €6 on that one, just save your pennies for this instead.
My only slight gripes are that its pretty hard to get foundation stains out of it, so it does always look grubby and stained. And the availability in Ireland is pretty poor. You can pick it up on Beauty Bay for €19.80 which sounds steep for a sponge, but seriously, now I’ve tried it, I’d spend €50 on it if I had to, it’s really that good. I can’t say any more good things about it, so just go, off you toddle- go buy it now. You won’t regret it!
