No7 and me, we go way back. In my early days of wearing makeup, No7 was the sophisticated high-end brand that I could actually afford, and how I loved saving my pennies to buy their foundation in the shade Blonde (ie a colour far too dark for my pasty complexion) and of course, their wonderful mascaras.
Recently, I picked up the No7 Lovely Lashes mascara. Lets be honest, I was suckered in by the pretty packaging and the fact that I had a money off voucher. Seriously though, how pretty is that metallic purple tube? I love it. As for the mascara… well, it’s a little more complicated than that….
What attracted me to this mascara (apart from the pretty packaging) was the fact that it is enriched with Argan Oil to nourish your lashes, and the promise that it gives ‘beautifully soft and glossy natural volume’ Yes, you read that right- glossy lashes, and I won’t lie, that is the effect that it gives.
I could definitely feel the Argan Oil effect when applying it, it felt soft and nourishing on the lashes, not drying like a lot of other mascaras that I’ve tried in the past. It has a lovely soft bristle brush style wand (no rubber bristles in sight-phew) which gives lengthened, volumised lashes. It gives a lovely natural bright-eyed look, perfect for everyday wear. It lasted all day on me, no flakes or smudging, and it is basically impossible to have clumps with this mascara; I applied 3 coats and it looked smooth and defined not a clumpy mess like others would after that many layers!
So, it sounds good right? Well, it is a really good product. For me its a perfect everyday mascara, great for a natural makeup look. If you like more of a false lash effect or dramatic lashes, this one is not for you. I applied this one day, and looked at a photo a friend took of me, and it looked as if my eyes were tiny, that I had no mascara on, so it’s not one to wear if you’re looking to make a statement, or a dramatic look. Another slight gripe with this is the price. At €18, this is definitely at the higher end of the spectrum for a ‘drugstore’ brand, especially for a mascara that has no special effects as such, it’s just a decent daily mascara.
So would I repurchase? Well, probably not. Although I am enjoying using it, and the Argan Oil feels wonderful on my lashes, I just can’t justify spending €18 on a natural look everyday mascara. I think I’ll be visiting the Essence stand and picking up a €3 alternative instead. However, I would still recommend this to anyone who likes a natural lash look, and I think it would be great for mature ladies who want the nourishing benefits of the Argan Oil, along with an understated look.
You can buy this mascara in store and online at Boots.
