Glossybox UK January 2016 ‘The Year Of More’

Yay, January’s Glossybox has finally arrived! You guys know that receiving my Glossybox is always my favourite part of the month, so I was really excited for my box of goodies to arrive on a freezing cold, dull January day. I was disappointed to see that Glossybox are back to using the piece of glossy card to display the product information on, I really liked the little booklet style that was included in the NARS and December boxes. I was also pretty disappointed to see an item that I received in a Glossybox not too long ago had been sent to me again. My box also felt a little bit ‘thrown together’ as the ribbon was not in place when I opened the box, and some of the packaging on the boxes was a little bit bashed. This is the first time that I’ve been disappointed upon opening my Glossybox in the year that I’ve been subscribing, lets hope its a once off! Anyway, January’s edition contained 5 items, 4 of which are full sized. Lets peek inside shall we?

The first item that I noticed was of course, the biggest, the Unani Dermo Defense Face Mask. This was a full sized item, a generous 100ml tube. I’ve never heard of Unani before, they’re a Spanish brand, and this face mask is herbal based, and smells amazing! The scent is so soothing and natural, I love it. This product is billed as being ideal for sensitive skin, and promises to ensure that your complexion stays hydrated and nourished, which is exactly what my skin is crying out for in this freezing January weather! I was really pleased to receive this, and cannot wait to try it out!

The next skincare item was the Madara Cellular Repair Serum, in a deluxe 15ml sample size. This is a light green creamy formula, that promises to plump skin, while boosting hydration and radiance. Again, this sounds great for this time of year to give my winter damaged skin a bit of a boost. I cannot wait to try this out tonight during my skincare regime!

On to the makeup items, next up was the Emite Micronized Power Blush. Now, if you regularly read my Glossybox posts, you’ll know that I received this exact product in my August Glossybox. So, I was a tad disappointed to receive a duplicate item, however Glossybox sent me an email to apologise for the error, and promised to send me my missing item in February’s box, which I was pleased about. This is a really highly pigmented bronzey blush shade, which I’ve tried before, and realised that its definitely best to use a very light hand with this one! So although this is a nice addition, as I already own it, I can’t get too excited about it.

Next up is the Glossybox Eyeshadow in Glossy Mauve. The first thing I noticed about this is that the little compact is extremely hard to open, definitely one that will ruin your manicure straight away! It’s a generous sized pan, and the shade is a really nice mauvey-grey colour which will look nice all over the lid as part of a smokey eye look. It is pretty decently pigmented and doesn’t seem to have much fall out when I’ve been testing it on my hand, so I’m looking forward to using it on the lids soon. I don’t know why though, I just find that Glossybox own brand items don’t excite me too much when they’re included in the boxes, it kind of just feels like they’re in there as a bit of a ‘filler item’ but maybe that’s just me! I will definitely get some use from this one though.

Finally included was the Teeez Cosmetics Oasis Gem Lipstick. Now, this was the item that excited me the most. Seriously, how cool is that funky packaging? I just love the design on the lipstick tube! This is a really nice coral shade, that is insanely pigmented, and dries to a matte finish. I’ve tested this out already, and it feels so smooth and comfortable on the lips, not at all drying, which I expected. It’s also a pretty long lasting formula. The only thing is that its a pretty bright orangey coral shade, so I’ll be putting it away until summer time, as I don’t think it fits in with my own January winter makeup style! But its a really great addition to this month’s edit.

So, that’s the lot for January’s Glossybox! I hope I didn’t sound too negative this month, I was really looking forward to receiving my box, but for some reason the contents didn’t ‘wow’ me quite as much as I’d expected. Perhaps because the standard of the December box was so high, maybe I was expecting a bit too much! Next month’s sneak peek tells me that we’ll be getting a MUA Power Pout Glaze, and we get to choose our own shade, which if my memory serves me correctly, I actually already chose a couple of months ago and I’d somehow forgotten! So I’m looking forward to trying that one out!

What did you guys think of the January Glossybox? Did you receive anything different than I got in mine? Let me know in the comments below!

I know what you mean about the GlossyBox own brand items feeling like filler somehow, I can’t quite put into words exactly why I feel that way about them, at least when it’s a brand like Essence it’s honest filler!

Instead of the blush I got a beauty blender, I’d never used one before so I was glad of that addition! My only problem with the Glossybox eyeshadow is that it isn’t pigmented enough for me, I feel like I spend ages applying it before I can reach any level of colour. Such a shame!

That’s such a pity, I haven’t tried the eyeshadow yet! I feel it’s a bit of a let down whenever they include a Glossybox product, always feels like it’s just popped in as a filler!x

Shame you received a duplicate item, it was nice of them to email and apologise, j wonder what extra you will get next month as I’ve seen a few different things on each persons box x
