If you guys have been reading my blog for any length of time, you’ll know that I have a serious love for Soap & Glory products. I love so many of their makeup, bodycare and skincare ranges, they are undoubtedly my favourite cosmetics brand! So when I spotted the launch of the new ‘Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks’ a couple of months ago, I knew I’d have to get my hands on them at the first opportunity.
OK, based on the above… you’d expect the usual rave review… but for once, I’m not 100% wowed by these makeup items, lets take a look why shall we?
So I picked up 3 of the gloss sticks in the shades; Technicoral, Nudist and Pinkaboo, 3 gorgeous shades. I love the packaging, the silver writing is lovely, and I like how the colour of the tube corresponds to the lipstick shade. The product twists up from the bottom, so no need for a sharpener, and I like how the top of the product is slanted, to give ease of application on the lips. They are so smooth to apply, and are so easy to wear, you can apply them without a mirror. They leave a gorgeously sheer wash of colour on the lips, and leave a nice non sticky glossy sheen. They also last a pretty long time! They retail for a bargainous €4.99, so really, it all sounds good, right?
Well, this is where I have a bit of a problem… the absolutely teeny tiny size! Seriously, there has to only be about half an inch of product housed within the packaging, which doesn’t really sit right with me. If you picked this up off the shelf and took it home, you would definitely be expecting a decent amount of product due to the size of the tube, not a measly little bullet like above. I wrote a review previously on the old style Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks, and I’m so disappointed that they have now discontinued them in place of these new ones. The old style gloss sticks were waaaaay bigger, and although they cost €11, I’d rather pay more to get a lot more product, rather than replacing these mini ones over and over again. The older style product is also slightly glossier than the new version.
I just don’t think a teeny amount of product is worth paying €5 for. I was pretty disappointed that Soap & Glory chose to discontinue a great product, in favour of repackaging it to a ridiculously tiny sized alternative.
Swatched L-R; Technicoral, Nudist, Pinkaboo
So although it pains me to post such a negative review of one of my favourite brand’s offerings, I had to be honest. The product itself is of really good quality, but I just can’t help feeling ripped off by the teeny amount of product you get for the money. If you are interested in picking these up, they are available from Boots, and are often on offer 3 for 2 or Buy One Get One Half Price, which might take the sting out of it a little.
