Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! If you’re in Ireland, I hope you’re enjoying a day off, having fun with family and friends 🙂
Anyway, today I’m going to do a quick review of the March edit from Birchbox. Now, you may remember my post from last month, all about the launch of Birchbox UK in Ireland, and all the bumps along the way… well, I can say that this month was slightly better. However, I have to say, the shipping time is still woeful. With this box, I received my dispatch email on Monday 7th March, and the box arrived at my home on Wednesday 16th March. However in comparison, my Glossybox was dispatched on Tuesday 8th March, and I received it on Friday 11th March. So take note Birchbox, you guys need to sort out your shipping!
Anyway, this month’s box was a wordsearch themed box, which was designed to help you to search for, and find- your ultimate beauty discovery. The box contained 6 items, 2 of which are full sized. Let’s take a peek inside, shall we?
Firstly, we had received a sneak peek of this one, the Arrow Boost Color Enhancing Lip Balm. Arrow is a new Birchbox own brand (like LOC in last month’s box), and it is a vegan brand that is paraben and cruelty free. At first I was like, meh, a lip balm…whatever. But, I was pleasantly surprised! This balm applies so smooth and leaves the lips feeling soft. The best part is that it definitely does enhance colour on the lips, it made my lips look gorgeously peachy and plump. I’ll definitely keep this in my handbag for regular use! I also really like the packaging design, which is always a bonus.
The next full sized item, which we also spotted a sneak peek of, is the Model Co More Brows in ‘Medium/Dark’. It’s a quick drying tinted brow gel that contains teeny hair like particles which help create the illusion of fuller brows. Now, I’ve only quickly tried this out, but it definitely looks promising. It has a tiny little spooly that makes application pretty easy, and the shade matches my brows really well. It does take about 60 seconds to try, which I learned when I spotted a big streak across my forehead after touching my brows too soon! I’ve never tried this type of product before, so I’m pretty happy with its inclusion in this month’s box.
On to hair care, I also received the Philip B. Drop Dead Staightening Baume, in a 15ml sample tube. This silicone free treatment promises to shorten your blow dry time, and help to relax unruly hair for a straight style. This definitely sounds promising, so I’ll give it a go, as my hair is somewhat wavy and fuzzy, so I tend to straighten it most days. It also takes my hair forever to dry, so anything that cuts back on time spent under the hairdryer is a plus for me! I have found that these sort of formulas have left my hair feeling greasy and heavy in the past, so I’m hoping this one isn’t like that. I shall report back once I test it!
Sticking with hair care, I also received the Amika Nourishing Mask. Now, I have to say it, I hate receiving sachets in beauty boxes. It’s really not fun when you’re sent teeny samples (as I highlighted in this month’s Glossybox post) so I wish this had been sent in a little pot or tube with more than one use in it. However, I am looking forward to trialing it out. It promises to seal split ends and fight dryness, and claims to be intensely hydrating. Sounds right up my street, so I shall put it to the test and report back!
On to skincare, I also received the Polaar Ice Source Moisturizing Gel in this 25ml tube. This is aimed at combination to oily skins, but is also great for dehydrated skin types. This should suit my skin type perfectly, and I’m pleased with the sample size, as it should give a good idea of how the product works for my skin type. I’ve only opened a brand new tube of moisturiser, so I might keep this one for travel.
The final item I received was the This Works Pillow Spray in Deep Sleep. This little spray contains a mix of Wild Camomile, Vetivert and True Lavender, which is the most amazing soothing scent I’ve ever had the pleasure to sniff! It’s meant to calm the mind, acting as a natural sedative to prepare you for sleep. Now, I don’t usually have problems sleeping, but I have the odd night here and there when I find it difficult to drift off, so I shall keep this in my bedside locker in case those occasions arise!
So, that’s the lot this month. I’m pretty pleased with the contents of my Birchbox this time around, it has a nice mix of makeup, skincare and hair care items. I do wish Birchbox could work on improving their shipping to Ireland, it’s extremely frustrating seeing all the UK customers posting about their boxes a whole 10 days before we receive our boxes over here. But, I’m pleased with the products I’ve been getting, so I think I shall keep my subscription going for another month at least 🙂
