Here we are again, another month, another Glossybox! You may remember that last month’s offering didn’t really tick all the boxes for me, so I was eagerly awaiting the April edition to see if things had improved. Well, let’s delve right in shall we?
First up, was the item we received a spoiler alert for last month. a sample size of The Body Shop’s Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil. This wonder oil promises smoother, more even and hydrated skin. Well, this sounds right up my street. I love facial oils, and this one smells amazing, due to the blend of 3 restorative oils. I’ve never tried anything from The Body Shop’s skincare range, so I’m looking forward to testing this out. My only gripe? Yup, you guessed it, the piddly size. Reminiscent of the infamous Olay sample last month, I think a larger sample than a teeny 7ml bottle would’ve been better here.
Sticking with skincare, next up is a deluxe sample size of the Bandi Intensive Moisturising Cream. This is billed as the perfect base for makeup, and suitable for all skin types. I’m impressed by the sleek pump packaging (I always prefer tubes instead of dipping fingers into pots and transferring germs!) and the 30ml size is decent too, it will be good for travel. I’m always pleased with the inclusion of a moisturiser as it’s something I use daily, so it’s great to have a back up!
The next item was somewhat random, but a pleasant surprise. On first glance I assumed it was a hand cream, but I actually discovered I had received the Swiss Smile Whitening Toothpaste! Now, a bit of a strange item perhaps, but hey, we have received gels and lotions for your intimate areas before, so I should know Glossybox like to throw you a curveball every so often! I’m pretty pleased to have received this, as it promises to remove any stains and gently restore teeth to their natural whiteness. Who doesn’t want a pearly white smile eh? This is a full sized item and valued at a whopping €36 for a 75ml tube. Here’s hoping I don’t love it, or I’ll be severely out of pocket each month stocking up on designer toothpaste!
On to the makeup, I’d seen a sneak peek of the next item, the Studio 10 Brow Lift Perfecting Liner. This is another full sized product, a double ended brow pencil which claims to be ‘one shade suits all.‘ Now, it matches my brows perfectly, its a really nice firm pencil that mimics the look of any missing hairs perfectly. It also comes with a nude tone highlight shade to apply along the brow bone too, which is great. I’m pretty pleased with this, but I have to wonder will the one shade really suit everyone? This is another pricey one, valued at €27.
Finally, a not so pricey makeup item, the Mosaic Compact Powder in the shade ’01 Sunkissed Beauty’ from Essence. Now Essence is a brand I’m very familiar with, as it’s sold in so many chemists and Penneys stores here in Ireland, and Glossybox have sent me a few items from them in the past. I’ve had mostly good results from items that I’ve tried, so I’m hoping this will work out well for me. I think this is meant to be a bronzer type product, but it is fairly light, so I’m not sure if it will work as a highlight or a finishing powder for me? It’s pretty glowy/shimmery, so I’ll have to play around with it and see how it works out! This is valued at €3.49, so an affordable option if I fall in love with it!
So that’s the lot this month! Am I satisfied? Well, yes and no. I wish The Body Shop sample had been a teeny bit bigger. I’m so used to Glossybox sending out decent sizes, that it’s been disappointing recently with the tiny samples. Birchbox are well known for sending out mini sizes and sachets, but I’ve always relied on Glossybox to send out bigger & better items, so this recent bout of teeny products has been a tad disappointing. I’m happy with the moisturiser and the toothpaste, and even though the Essence product is a cheap one, and one I’m not sure how I will use exactly…. I do really like the brand in general, and am happy to keep receiving Essence items! As for the brow pencil, I’m somebody with incredibly scaldy eyebrows, due to insane overplucking in my teenage years (oh if I could turn back time!) so I’m always pleased with brow products, and the pencil matches my hair colour perfectly. However I’d love to know if it really is ‘one shade fits all‘ as claimed? If you have received it please let me know if it suited you! I’ve seen other subscribers posting about receiving eyeshadow quads, lip/cheek sticks or Leighton Denny nail products, which I definitely would have preferred to some of the bits I got, sometimes it can be annoying when you see others with items you wanted, but I guess it’s the luck of the draw eh?!
So overall, I think it’s a decent box, but there is definitely room for improvement. My favourite Glossybox this year was the February Edition, so here’s hoping there are more boxes like that to come! Next month every subscriber will receive a full sized Revlon mascara, we were given the chance to choose which one we wanted a while ago, so I’m hoping the one I chose will be a goodie!
