If you’re living in Ireland, you’ll hopefully currently be enjoying the June Bank Holiday weekend! We’ve had the most glorious week of sunshine and fantastic weather (I’m talking 23 degrees in Dublin… this almost never happens!) and this bank holiday is one that I’ve been looking forward to for a while. As I mentioned before, I’ve been signed off work sick for a few weeks now, the days have all merged into one while sitting at home alone, so it’s been nice to have a weekend away to look forward to! We had previously booked a trip to Kilkenny to go to a Dublin v. Laois football match (we are Dublin season ticket holders) and despite initial concerns that I might not be up for it due to illness, as you’re reading this, I am currently in Kilkenny, and hopefully having some rest and relaxation (or some drinks in a beer garden if it doesn’t mix too badly with my pain meds eh?!) So I thought I’d do a little post on what I have packed for a 3 day weekend away in sunny Ireland!
First up, skin care. I’ve packed my Make Up Eraser face cloth (full review here) for quick makeup removal at nighttime. Then I’m trying out some new travel sized products, firstly the Purity Cleanser sample from a Glossybox, here’s hoping it works well for cleansing my skin as I haven’t even tested it yet. Then for moisturiser I’ve added in the Caudalie Vinosource Moisturising Sorbet from the latest Birchbox, as it’s the perfect size for travel, and I didn’t fancy lugging my huge Embryolisse tube with me!
Next up, primers. At the moment I’m enjoying using the Emite Make Up Diamond Heart Illuminating Primer. As the foundation I’m bringing is a matte finish formula, I like to have an illuminating primer, to help to bring through some radiance to the skin. I got this as a sample in a Glossybox last year, and I do really like it. For eyelids, I’ve got my trusty Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, which helps to lock down shadow on the lids for a long time throughout the day.
Then we’re on to the base items. It was tough to choose a foundation, but in the end I went for the L’Oreal Infallible 24H-Matte foundation. Basically, this is a great matte foundation, that is matte but not flat, I’d call it demi-matte, as it still has a slight naturalness to it. Teamed with the Emite Illuminating Primer, it gives a nice glowing base, that is long-lasting, yet shine free. I also like how it comes in a squeezy tube which is always great for travel. (If you would like to see a full review of this foundation let me know!)
Next up I’ve added in my holy grail concealer the L.A. Girl Pro Conceal, which you know I love, and can read my full thoughts here. I have a few setting powders in my stash that are almost empty, but I decided to pick up a brand new Rimmel Stay Matte powder just for this weekend, in case any of my others ran out or broke due to the small amount left in the compacts. Again, you guys know my love for this, and I have a full review here. Finally, I’ve added in my MAC Pro Longwear Concealer, for spot concealing any blemishes, and I like to use it around my nose, where I’m prone to redness, and my makeup wearing off. When I pop half a pump of this around my nose with a beauty blender or brush, it holds my makeup in place all day, as this is usually the first place that my makeup disappears from!
For cheeks, I’m trying out this little trio. You may remember I hauled this Rimmel x Kate Moss Sculpting Palette a while ago, and shamefully I havent even touched it yet. So I thought as it is compact for travel, featuring a highlight, bronzer and blusher, this will be the perfect weekend to try it out. The blush in particular is a gorgeous coral colour which is lovely and summery, so here’s hoping I’ll enjoy using this, as basically, it’s all I have with me!
For daytime eye looks, I’ve brought the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette, as it is full of neutral matte and satin shades for a basic everyday natural look. My liner of choice is the So Susan Haute Light Highlighting Pencil, which I love to use in the waterline to brighten my eyes and make me look more alert. My current mascara of choice is the KIKO Extra Sculpt Mascara, which honestly is nothing to write home about, it does the job, nothing major really, but I’m just using it up right now before opening another one!
For evening time eye looks, I’ve kept things super basic. My liners of choice are the Supercat by Soap & Glory which is a great felt tip liner for use on the lid for a nice cat eye. Then the Cynthia Rowley black eyeliner pencil was a great find in a recent Birchbox, as it’s so creamy and pigmented and lasts so long on the waterline, it will be perfect for a nighttime look. Finally, my lid colour of choice is also a Birchbox brand, this time it’s the LOC Shadow Stick in the shade Champagne Problems, which is a gorgeous shimmery metallic shade. The best thing about the LOC shadow sticks is that they last and last on the lids. Seriously, this applies so easily, its really pigmented and stays on forever. Love it!!
On to brows, I’ve decided against bringing a ton of extra brow products, and thought I can just use the shade ‘Faint’ from the Naked Basics palette to fill in my brows, and then I’ll set them in place with the ModelCo More Brows tinted brow gel. This stuff locks my brows into place for the whole day, so this combination should be a good pairing for me.
Next up for lips, I’m using the Bourjois Color Boost lip crayon in the shade Peach on the Beach, which is a nice subtle peachy summer shade which should pair well with the blush. Then I’ve also popped in the Arrow Boost lip balm, another Birchbox discovery. What I love about this lip balm is how it reacts to your skin’s own ph levels and creates a lovely flush to the lips, which makes it look like you’re wearing a lip tint, but all with the ease of applying it as a lip balm!
Finally, with the great weather, I couldn’t leave out a setting spray! I’ve decided to bring the Primark PS Makeup Setting Spray. This stuff should keep my makeup locked in place all day long, through any sunny sweaty spells I may encounter! I’ve done a full review post on it here.
So that’s the lot! I forgot to photograph suncream or deodorant, which I’ll obviously be bringing, and I usually just use the hotel’s shampoo, conditioner and shower gels so that’s a couple fewer items to pack! Now just to throw in all my makeup brushes and some fragrance and I’m all set to rock and roll!
If you’re in Ireland, how are you spending the Bank Holiday weekend? Wherever you are in the world, I hope you’re having a nice relaxing Sunday!
