It’s that time of year again, Father’s Day. A bit of a dreaded time for some shoppers, as let’s face it, we all know that Dads, and men in general are difficult to buy for. Luckily, my dad likes Marks & Spencer’s clothing (or maybe we just think this, as his wife and 3 daughters tend to dress him from M&S!) so when I was in store today picking up some gifts for him for Daddy’s Day (this Sunday June 19th if you’re in Ireland and the UK) I spotted this great deal, and had to pick it up. The Marks and Spencer Summer Beauty Box costs €15 if you spend €50 in store, and is filled with 14 amazing beauty items, a mixture of makeup, skin care, body care, hair care & fragrance in a mixture of full-sized and deluxe sample sizes, from some great brands. Anyway, when I asked on Instagram if you’d like to see a full post on this Summer Beauty Box, the answer was yes, so here it is!
Firstly, the box itself is a standard light cardboard box, in a fairly plain black and white design. In terms of size, its a lot bigger than a Birchbox or even a Glossybox, think large shoebox and you’re just about right. Nestled inside some red tissue paper are the products themselves!
So here they are, all 14 of the products! I squealed when I opened it, I was that excited! It’s such a great, well-balanced mixture of items, from a great selection of brands. I already know that I’d love to see M&S do more of these boxes in the future. For me, it’s like a deluxe edition Glossybox, with better brands and a much larger number of products! Let’s take a closer look at the contents…
Firstly, it’s nail care. I was so pleased to see the Nails Inc Gel One Coat Polish in the shade Chiltern Park, which is such a pretty pink colour. I’ve tried a few Nails Inc. polishes before, and they’re a great formula. This polish retails for about €17 meaning it is worth more than I paid for the box itself, amazing! As far as I know, this is a full-sized product.
Then also included is the Leighton Denny Crystal Finish Quick Dry Top Coat, which is another full sized item. This will be perfect to use on top of the Nails Inc polish to hopefully keep it chip free and lasting longer! I’m really looking forward to trying this out, as Leighton Denny are a great brand. This is valued at €16!
It wouldn’t be a summer beauty box without the addition of sun care items, so I was pleased with the inclusion of these ones (perfect for my upcoming trip to Spain!) Firstly, it’s the M&S Beauty Sun Smart Sun Lotion SPF 30, in this handy 50ml size- perfect for your handbag! This looks like a great product and is also billed as suiting sensitive skin, which is perfect for the man in my life whose skin often reacts to regular sun lotions! You can buy this from M&S for €6.75 for this travel size.
Then next up is the Ultrasun Face SPF30, which is an anti ageing sun protection for very sensitive skin. This will be perfect for applying to my face each day on holidays. The full-sized 50ml tube of this retails for €27, effectively valuing this sample at €13.50!
Now, its on to hair care. Firstly, a brand I’ve tried a couple of times: Philip Kingsley with the Citrus Sunshine Swimcap, which is a cream formula that promises to guard your hair from chlorinated and salt water, along with added sunscreens which protect colour treated hair. This is definitely going in my suitcase for Spain! A 75ml tube of this costs €17, this tube is 50ml meaning it’s valued at about €11!
Next is the Percy & Reed Volumising No Oil Oil. Yup, that second oil is meant to be there 🙂 I like the sound of this stuff as it is meant to bring dry, damaged, coarse, rebellious or frizzy hair to heel in no time, which is exactly what I need! The bottle included in here is 30ml, valued at about €9.50!
Then finally for hair care it’s the Swell Ultimate Protect and Renew Serum, in a 30ml tube. This is a heat protecting serum that smoothes, adds gloss and conceals split ends. My haphazard mathematics tell me that this size tube is worth about €11!
For skin care, we have 3 great items. First up is the M&S brand Pure Natural Beauty, with the Instant Radiance Hot Cloth Cleanser. Unfortunately, they didn’t include a muslin cloth; but I have an abundance of them already. If you do buy this box and don’t already own some, buy some muslin cloth in the baby section of the pharmacy, or use a hot face cloth with this product for best results! This promises to deeply cleanse your skin to leave it smooth and radiant! This is a generous 50ml size tube which is valued at around €4.
Next, is the REN Instant Firming Beauty Shot, which is a gel-serum that instantly firms, lifts and plumps the skin to leave it looking dramatically smoother, tighter and more youthful. Looking forward to using this! This is a 10ml sized tube valued at €16!!
Then finally for skin, it’s the Rodial Dragon’s Blood Hyaluronic Tonic, which is one of the items I’m most looking forward to trying out. This tonic promises to hydrate and brighten skin. I can’t find the full value online, but I do know that Rodial products are pricey! So this is a great addition.
For makeup, there are 2 nice little inclusions. Firstly the Pur Correcting Primer Illuminate & Glow. This is a colour correcting primer, to be used after moisturiser and before foundation; which will hopefully give me a bit of a glow! This is valued at €10 for this 10ml size tube.
Also included is a full-sized Stila Lip Glaze in the shade ‘raspberry’. I’ve used these Lip Glazes before, and they are such a great long-lasting, yet non sticky, nicely glossy formula. The raspberry colour looks gorgeous for summer too. This is valued at €20!
The final inclusions are fragrance and body care! For fragrance its the M&S Island Escape Eau De Toilette in a 25ml bottle. It’s a beautifully designed summery bottle, which contains a lightly musky yet tropical scent. Perfect size for your handbag, and perfect to take away on holiday!
Finally, the Nuxe Huille Prodigieuse, which is something I’ve been dying to try for ages. This dinky little sized glass bottle is valued at about €4. This is a multi-purpose dry oil to nourish, repair and beautify your face, body and hair. Sounds perfect, can’t wait to try it out!
So that’s the lot! Let’s not try to add up my dodgy price calculations, the lady in the store told me the total value of this is €170, for the amazing price of €15 (when you spend €50) I think this is a great deal, the €50 can be spent on all clothing, homeware and accessories etc, but not on groceries. Unfortunately this is in store only, not available online which is a bit of a bummer. The lady in store told me it is available as long as stocks last, and they had quite a few boxes left in Dublin’s Henry Street and Grafton Street stores today when I visited 🙂 This offer is also available in the UK, I believe you have to spend £40 there, and it will cost £10 for the box 🙂
