Well, its been a while! But I’m back today with some of my latest beauty discoveries, along with a couple of new accessories that have made it to the top of my Love List!
On a recent trip to The States, I picked up a few high-end makeup items that had been on my wishlist for a while, during a succession of Sephora shopping sprees. I’ve also picked up some more affordable makeup too, which have been equally as exciting for me as their high end counterparts. Let’s delve in and take a closer look….
Firstly, I picked up the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer in the shade ‘Radiant Bronze Light’ Now, I love bronzers. They’re one of my favourite makeup items to buy, I have a slight obsession with looking bronzed. Hourglass have such gorgeous packaging on all their products, and their formulas are outstanding. Now this bronzer came in at a rather spendy $50, but I think it was really worth it. I chose the shade more suited to medium/deep skin tones, which truthfully isn’t my skin tone at all… I’m more of a light/medium, but as I was sporting a bit of a tan from the Florida sun, I matched pretty well to the Radiant Bronze Light shade. Now that we’ve entered winter, I need a little bit of fake tan to help me achieve the more medium skin tone to which I desire. But anyway, this stuff really is the bees knees. It gives such a gorgeous natural, radiant glow to the skin, that just gives you a lovely healthy skin look. I was slightly concerned about the amount of shimmer that you can see in the pan, but it just translates to a gorgeously light glow on my skin, not chunks of glitter as I’ve experienced with other shimmery bronzers in the past (Rimmel Sunshimmer circa 2006 was my go to shimmery bronzer of choice, shamefully) You do need to go in with a light hand with this, as it is so natural, it’s easy to go overboard and keep building it up, but really with this, less is more. It blends beautifully and is just an all round lovely product to work with. I’d definitely recommend checking it out, if you happen to come across Hourglass while beauty shopping!
Another Sephora find was the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder. I didn’t buy this in full size, this is actually a deluxe miniature pot that I got in one of the Sephora Favorites All Stars set. Boy, was I glad that I discovered this. Face powders are generally a rather boring essential, especially for those among us who suffer from oily skin, so it’s hard to want to spend the big bucks on beige powder, instead of pretty blushes or eyeshadow palettes. This loose powder feels wonderfully light on the skin, whilst still providing a nice matte coverage, keeping shine and oil at bay all day. Although it has a matte finish, it also has a sort of sheer coverage that I would describe as a sort of ‘airbrush effect’ which leaves skin looking flawless, and definitely not flat. I like to apply this with a large fluffy powder brush, sweeping it all over the entire face. You could also apply it with a powder puff, focusing in on the T-Zone or other shine prone areas. I always loved Rimmel’s Stay Matte powder, and MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, but this has blown them out of the water. Yes, this is rather spendy at €42, but a good investment piece to add to your makeup bag.
Some of you may remember this from when I mentioned it in a Penneys haul post a couple of months back. These are the Catrice Prime & Fine Makeup Transformer Drops in the ‘Darkening’ version. In a nutshell, this little tube of wonder contains highly pigmented darkening fluid, which when mixed with liquid foundation, can adjust the shade for you. So I have a bottle of one of my favourite foundations, Estée Lauder Double Wear, that is just far too pale for my skin tone. Trying to make it match by adding bronzer just wasn’t doing the trick, and I was just looking rather ghostly while wearing it. Rather than throw out a bottle of €40 foundation, I picked up the make up transformer drops from Catrice while shopping in Penneys, and boy am I glad I did! For the bargain price of €4, this product has worked wonders for me. I had a terrible habit a while ago of buying foundations that were far too pale for me, then never getting any wear out of them, so now I just have to add a drop or two of these transformer drops in to a pump of foundation until I have the perfect match, and I’m sorted. It would also be great to change up your foundation if you have fake tan on, or in summer when your skin tone naturally darkens. They also do a version to lighten the shade of your foundation, so for paler gals out there, who may not always find a light enough shade of base, this could be the solution for you!
My final two makeup favourites are for eyes and lips! First up, I’ve been loving the Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in the shade ‘Chihuahua’ This was another product I picked up in one of the Sephora Value Sets, so it’s not quite a full-sized tube, but I will definitely repurchase in full size when this runs out. This liquid lipstick is the perfect natural shade for everyday wear. It’s a nude pinky brown, that suits my skin tone really well, the matte formula isn’t too drying on the lips, and lasts for a few hours before fading. I usually wear creamy lipsticks, so this is a new style of lippie for me, but I’m really loving it, and now I can’t wait to try out a few more matte liquid lipstick formulas! I’ve also been loving the Essence Metal Shock Eyeshadow in the shade ‘Solar Explosion’ which I picked up in the same haul as the Catrice Darkening Drops. Again, this was another bargain buy, only costing a couple of quid, but my god, it seriously performs like a high-end eyeshadow. It’s a liquid formula, which I apply using the doe foot applicator, I just swoosh it all over the lid, then blend it out using a brush, or my finger if I’m feeling lazy. As you can see from the swatch above, it’s a seriously pigmented formula, that gorgeous gold metallic colour is the real deal, it takes one swipe of the applicator, and it is so long-lasting. Seriously, I wore this shadow for long days in the Florida heat (we’re talking 40 degrees plus crazy humidity) and despite most of my makeup melting away by the end of the day (plus my hair going crazy, but let’s not even go there) this gorgeous shadow would still be in place after 12+ hours of trekking theme parks in the heat. I’d definitely recommend checking this out the next time you’re passing an Essence stand, I’m definitely going back to check out some of the other shades!
Next up, I picked up this lovely charm necklace from Katie Mullally. I’d spied some of her designs on Instagram quite some time ago, but took my time in deciding on which one I want, partly because she has so many amazing pieces, and partly because it was a bit of an investment piece for me. As someone who doesn’t wear jewellery very often, I tend to pick up my necklaces in Primark or River Island, so I was a bit anxious about spending €130 on a charm and chain, in case I wouldn’t get that much wear from it. But I spied a discount code online, so saved around €30 and treated myself to it. This one is the ‘Double Irish 5d Pendant’ and it also comes in gold. I chose the silver as the little Irish 5 pence coin I used to spend back in the 90s was silver, and it brings back nice memories of my childhood, when that 5p was used to buy some Postman Pat sweets, or a nice Drumstick lolly. Anyway, I absolutely adore this necklace, I’ve gotten so much wear from it, using it for both everyday and dressy looks. It’s great quality and I’m so glad I treated myself to it. Next up I have my eye on the Irish Twenty Pence Charm in gold, so I think I’ll be adding that to my collection sooner rather than later!
Sticking with jewellery, I picked up these Disney Pandora charms while in Florida, and had to share them with you. As someone who never really wears jewellery, my one exception is my Pandora charm bracelet, which I’ve had for years now, and its filled with charms that hold lots of special memories for me. So I had to pick up some Disney charms as a souvenir from my holiday to Walt Disney World. I chose this pretty pink murano glass bead, which the Mickey ears print on it, as it fits in with my pink and silver theme for the bracelet. As far as I’m aware this one was part of the Disney Parks collection, meaning it can only be bought in one of the Disney theme parks. I also chose the Minnie face one, as I thought it was super cute, and displays my love of Disney perfectly. They’ve now launched the Disney X Pandora collection in Ireland & the UK, and its well worth checking out if you’re a big Disney fan like myself!
Finally, a bit of a random one, but I’m obsessed with my new iPhone case that I picked up in TK Maxx. It’s so hard to find a case for the iPhone 7 Plus, and if you do find them, they’re usually quite big bulky cases that cover up the back of the phone. I really wanted to show off the pretty pink colour of my phone, so I was delighted when I came across this clear plastic case. The best part is the pink glitter liquid, which moves up and down on the back of the case, depending on which way you move it. It’s oddly mesmerising, looking at the sparkly liquid swooshing up and down, I often find myself becoming hypnotised while staring at it swirling around the back of my phone. The downside is that the case is almost thicker than the phone itself, so it is quite chunky, however an iPhone 7 Plus was never going to be one of those phones you just pop into your pocket, so it doesn’t bother me too much. TK Maxx often have a great range of phone covers, so it’s well worth a visit for something a bit different, at a good price!
